I saw something today that made me think .My good friend totaled his Suburban three weeks ago ,and he has been fighting with his insurance company ever since .I drove him this morning to his insurance company ,and I waited in my truck while he attended to his business .Anyway,it is garbage day in that area ,and an older fellow rides up on his mountain bike, and gets off it beside the recycling box .He proceeds to remove and fold up every piece of used christmas paper he could find in the garbage .I couldnt beleive he would carefully remove all the old paper since his grand total new off the showroom floor might be $1.00 .Anyways ,he was there for 10 minutes ,so during that I went through my truck and pockets ,and gave him about $73.00 in change and smaller bills .I thought he was going to kiss me !

THAT is Christmas summed up in one tidy little package.

Here is a quick scam to obtain some happiness!

Tell a woman, "I bet you a quarter I can pinch your butt and you wont even feel it".

pictured above: me

She'll feel it, but it's a quarter well spent.

Just don't do it to your friends sister, you won't be invited to Christmas dinner anymore.

I feel the movie, It's a Wonderful Life, is a life saver. There is a ton of pressure that is on all of us during the holidays and we can get to a point where we internalize all this pressure and then say what is the point!

When you get depressed during the holidays, you should pop in that movie and watch it through. It will remind you of things to be happy about.

If we find ourselves battling with depression, we need tools to battle it back and I think that movie is a good tool to do it.

And it is also good to know that this battle is something that mankind has been battling for a long long time. Way before this movie was made. So you are not alone. Realizing that many are battling it can help you feel it's more normal than not.

Ducke, the key to all of this just like life is STAY BUSY!!!!!!! I used to get that way and one year Christmas came and went. I told my wife, this year Christmas came and went sooooooo fast. She said you were too busy to worry about it!!!!
Every year I start as soon as fall cleanups are done with the next seasons prep.
Figuring out what is broken, and what I want to modify. I make parts lists, project lists upgrades to my shop Etc.. It is Dec 21 today and I am panicking because my door hangers have not arrived yet. I am NOT worrying about Christmas, I am too busy. I am modifying my T3000 spreader, I need tail lights on my tow behind sprayer, etc, etc... Need to get my renewal letters out and market to my competitors houses. Shall I go on ?
Keep busy!!! What is that quote Idle hands are the devils workshop. Or something like that. The devil is in your house.

I've been trying to keep busy, But it not all that easy around here lately.
Maybe once I get Christmas and new years done I can then start with the equipment stuff although most of the stuff was done in the fall before I put it away for the winter.
The snow blower is all done and just sitting waiting for some white stuff,(nothing in the long Range Forecast).
There is a few things to do around the house and the shop, The flyers are all ready to go the winter letters have been posted, I am working on a new web site that is almost done just need to add some more before and after shots and upload the whole thing.
I did a lawn clean up today it was outside my service area but I took it anyways just to get some work to as you say keep busy.

My fav Christmas movie;

As for depression and the severity you have, you could never be free of it.

I know my situation is pretty crummy, the more fun I have, the worse off I will feel later on. It's kind of like having a 'crash' when reality sets in.

I have actually had my anxiety attacks yesterday, being stuck without anything to do, and no will to do anything for over a month (seriously, I stare at a wall most of the day) will hit you after awhile. Personally, I love being alone, but I do get sick of my own company.

Distractions help, but only if they are constant. Inside, you will always know you are distracting yourself which can be hurtful. I'm not sure if my case is similar to others because I do have several other problems mixed in. Other than that, being with the opposite sex and having a grand old time may increase your spirits. In all seriousness, It's one of the few things that have results that don't give you a crash.

I could tell those with depression to avoid staying up late, and to hangout with friends. In reality and for those who suffer from depression, we all know it's easier said than done. Depression is something that causes us to act out against our natural will. I have done some mighty crazy things over the years because of it, and for no understandable reason.

The best thing I have done, was to let the people in my life know up front that I have 'x' conditions so that they are not offended by my behavior.

/

Wishing you all the best. Remember that depression often has an 'end' period and you will end up back on track. Sure it'll come back to haunt you throughout your life, but reminding yourself that it will eventually be over helps, and will keep you from being overly self-destructive.
