Default winter damage

Anyone else seeing a lot of evergreen shrub damage? Abrovitie and yews seem to have a lot of brown on them this spring.

Yep,every evergreen tree at the cemetery I do has brown on the top half of the tree
Its frost, got a lot of very cold days this winter.

Some look lime they might make it, but most of them are gone.
About 3ft up the trees are good, then the top half brown.

What do you do with such trees then? Do you cut off the dead section or will you just wait and see what regrows back by the summer?

At the cemetery i cut, they have a Sexton who takes care of that stuff, so don't know what they have planned.
I do know and have seen before where people have cut the dead stuff out and actually tie up the green as to make the shape of the tree and from what I heard it works ok...but haven't tried it myself.

Very interesting. What do you feel caused this damage this year over previous years?

I've cut dead branches out before and tied up others to fill it back in. It works alright but its pretty hard to do when the whole bush is brown haha. The bushes I trimmed the other day might spring back I was able to trim most of the brown off to show a little more green but only time will tell I guess.

Well -40 temps a few times this past winter. I have seen it before but not this bad. It was a really cold winter and a lot of snow too. You can clearly see how deep the snow was and the top half of the trees were exposed to that severe weather.

CD, same here, we have at least the top half of the trees brown and will be meeting with them about trying to save them. I think some will be alright but others are real bad.

Hey guys, good news. After posting earlier, we have a rain day here and I went up to the cemetery to look at these trees. They are coming back, but not sure yet if they will fully recover. Got pics but can't upload them from my phone. Steve?

Is it giving you a problem because of the size of them? Can you try to make them smaller at all?

Or if not, can you upload them to an image hosting site and then link to them? Or upload them to your facebook page and link to them?
