Winterization

Hey guys, long time no post! This has probably been brought up before but what does everyone do to winterize their equipment? In the past I have used a product that keeps the gas fresh, keeps water out of the system and bla blab la… and when I go to start up in the spring it seems like the equipment has trouble until that tank of gas is spent. Not a lot of trouble just some hesitations and slow starts, minor stuff but once it gets going all seems fine. I was thinking about just draining the system for the few months that they’re not in use. My question is what does everyone else do? Maybe start a poll, unless this has been discussed many times I apologize and will just have to look harder. Thanks guys for your input.

I figured it would be somewhere in here, I guess I didn't look hard enough. Thanks for the link the info was helpfull, as always. I'm going to try draining the system this year as opposed to the stabilizers to see how that works out in the spring. As for me, i'm so so, Lyme Disease beat me up pretty bad which is something I guess i'll have to bring up in another post. Just to be sure that everyone takes extra time out to check for ticks. So basically I've been working untill exhaustion (which isn't long at all) and sleeping so I haven't had much time to come on but with the close of the season I have more time to revisit the site.

I am sorry to hear that!

I don't think we talk much at all about lyme disease and I bet it effects alot of lawn care business owners.

What is your view on how best to protect yourself from this? Are there things lawn care business owners should be doing to prevent this from happening?

Also, if you do get it, what's the best way to deal with it to minimize it's effect on you?

Sorry I couldn’t write back sooner, I have been busy trying to get all my Snow Removal Bids in… anyway, I have seen so many Infectious Disease drs, and done so much research that I could be your Resident Lyme Disease Specialists! I don’t want to bore everyone with a lengthy post but basically the best prevention is bug sprays containing DEET, but they only last a few hours and who wants to have those chemicals on their skin all the time? Probably get cancer or something, who knows. The ticks that more often than not carry Lyme Disease, the deer tick, are so small that they can fit on a period at the end of the sentence. So if you are lucky enough to find the tiny tick get to a dr immediately and they will most likely start a course of Antibiotics just to be safe and hopefully prevent the disease from setting in. Do you think I should move this post to another area of the Forum and maybe give as much info as I can as opposed to being buried in a post titled “Winterization”?

Absolutely and don't think you are boring us because you are not. You actually could be saving a member(s) life with what you have learned.

Who knows how many of our members are already afflicted with this disease and have yet to get it checked out to find out what it is. Or know how to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Anything you could share is most definitely appreciated.
