Default Is this tree beyond help?

I believe it's a type of Oak. They had tied what I believe was support wire around it and it damaged the bark and trunk. Could some tree spikes help?

looks like someone pruned it like a crape myrtle....probably is just not sitting well in the soil and not getting the needed nutrients. Personally, I would talk them into planting something new.

Well for one they had the mulch all the way up to the trunk so I pulled that back. New homeowner wants me to revitalize the yard. I don't think it's beyond repair but will take some time to baby back into shape.

I would agree with avet,
Besides the look I would personally remove it due to the type tree in the space it is in, if no other reason.
It looks like turd, plant a new plant, and make money on it.

Tell me how you really feel Extreme. I was thinking about hanging ornaments from it and making it a "Holiday Tree." Since Easter is coming up maybe hang some baby Jesus' or Easter bunny balls. This way I get paid every holiday.

Can you remove the wire? Is it still there or is it trying to heal from an older wound?

Older wound. But some numbskull topped the hell out of it. Poor thing is tryin' to hang on which is why I'd kinda like to save it.

If it is still growing and it looks like it is, then see what happens with it. I bet it will recover.

I plan to let customer know it's a 50/50 shot but will try some fertilization stakes. I think it may recover as well but if not, plant a fruit tree.
