"Biggest mistake: Believing success would come overnight. "Now, we feel strongly that we have the chemistry to achieve goals."

That's what Joseph Hadaway Sr. founder of Hadaway & Sons Facilities Maintenance said. His company provides upkeep of commercial, industrial and residential properties with window cleaning, lawn care and landscaping, snow removal, pressure washing and janitorial services.

It's gret to hear insight from a business owner who started small and grew over time. So often business owners look for hyper-growth and don't allow themselves time to learn.

It makes you wonder if you should stop and think at times and say, what't the rush?

For a brighter day ... Hadaway - Employees: 60 nationwide with six in upper management, 12 crew leaders and 42 service technicians

Company history: Founded in 1969 for window cleaning, by Joseph Hadaway Sr. to provide individuals and businesses with quality services at affordable prices. "My father was motivated to provide his sons with an opportunity to utilize our entrepreneurial skills to manage and grow the company," Charles Hadaway said. The business expanded quickly for lawn and cleaning options. "Services were added to better meet the complete facilities maintenance needs of our valued customers." Hadaway & Sons has two Michigan locations and one local.

For the future: Open locations in high-growth areas.

On the side: Owns Innotech Designs Inc., which makes anti-scalp wheels for commercial mowers and offers marketing consultation for companies on specific projects.

Secret of success: "Above all, trusting God. We strive to provide customer satisfaction" with service that is prompt, top-caliber and fair, "from the single homeowner to the giant corporation."

How often do new business owners just stop because they don't feel they are growing fast enough?

The more long term growth and success stories we see, we all may become more comfortable with slower long term growth as being the norm. And a healthy norm at that.
