Default Maintenance of equipment

This is my first year in the business and I have all new equipment. I was wondering what kind of maintenance I should be doing and how often. Any suggestions would help. Thanks

New equipment and you though away the owners manual with the maintenance schedules and guides. Anything with a grease zerk I grease every 8 hours of use. Sharpen blades on anything with a blade once a week or daily ( I keep several sets of blades to make changing quick while I wait to sharpen the last set) depending on use. Change oil at first 50hrs of use and what is it like every 100 hrs after that.

Really though like Bruces question, what equipment do you have. maintenance varies tool to tool as well as by manufacturer (not a whole lot though). You should be able to go to the Mfg. web site as well and download owners manuals and maintenance schedules I recommend this method so that you know what they expect for you to do to ensure you don't void your warranty.

I agree with Fisher, except I would take it one further. Check your owners manual for each individual engine. Different engines require different maintenance specs. Definitely don't skimp on oil changes and air filter REPLACEMENT.

Read these:

What kind of annual maintenance should be performed on my 4-cycle engine?

What are some things I should do each time I start my mower?

I know I have posted these links before but here are a few links to help understand the reason for keeping your air filter clean.

What is all the hype about keeping my air filter clean?

Hi, I am your air filter. Please be nice to me.

I hope that helps.

I would like to add 2 cents to this and I'm sure someone will disagree but along the line of maintenance get away from using that crappy 2 stroke oil they sell you. Find a motorcycle shop and get some good stuff. Even the crappy stuff at a motorcycle shop is better then the best stuff at your equipment shop.

Your spark plugs will last you longer and motor will run cooler.

I had commented on this earlier today and somehow my comment disappeared. Primarily, follow the instructions in each engine's owner's manual. Make sure you check each manual individually. Each engine may be different based on the engine design, etc.

I had also posted several links to topics that I think might be of assistance in this. One of them is also linked in my signature. All of them are in my forum that is also linked to in my signature. I hope this helps.
