Default Rock bid

I've done a lot of measurements and need to lay down 37 yds. of medium river rock in an apartment complex. There are many areas between each unit, so not all one large area (many small areas).

I've been asked to just lay the rock over whatever is there now-most places it's mulch or even bare dirt. I will weed out the big stuff and spray first, but will not be laying down weed barrier cloth.

I have to park out in the parking area/lot, shovel the rock into a small dump trailer that pulls behind my lawn mower, then go in through the gate to each area that needs rock laid down. I can dump it there, since it's a dump trailer, on the larger areas, but there are many small areas that I will have to hand shovel and spread out of the dump trailer.

Hopefully I've given a good idea of the task. What I need to know is:

How many man hours per yard (approx.) will it take to lay and spread the stuff down since I've not done this type of work before. I know my labor rate, just want to get an idea of the time needed.

I will be making multiple trips to pick up rock over time since I can't have it delivered in a large load as there is no place to keep it. I can carry 2-3 yds at one time if I fill my truck AND trailer, but was thinking I would only use the trailer since it's easier to get it off that and into the dump trailer. So I can take maybe 1 or 1/2 yds. in the trailer. Anything else I need to consider here for the bid?

Thanks so much!

Lawn care business tips
How far away are you going to be buying the stone from?

Also how large is your trailer that is going to be pulled behind your mower?

Any overhead pics you can show us and maybe highlight the areas you are going to be working on?

I did a job similar to that. I find it easier to buy bags of them.

I can then lay them out every 5 ft. Tear open the bags and dump them out and spread them. They are easy to carry over your shoulder, easy to count & comes with a handy receipt to show the customer.

Be careful with these rocks though, shops tend to mix in different stone sizes and your customer might want the bigger ones as they tend to look best.

Using bags? Wouldn't that take 500 bags? Have you considered having the truck loads of stone dumped in the parking lot and using a mini track loader and wheel borrows to distribute the stone? 45ton of stone is a lot to move with a trailer bagged or not.

Here is a view of the apartments. There are two picture flipped so I can show you all the spots. I put arrows where all the gravel will go. I put a star where I will be parking and there is a gate there.

I would agree 45 ton is a lot of stone to move on your trailer, and I would hire a dump truck " like Fisher said". I know that up front cost of hiring a dumtruck sucks but It's going to save you money, and I would get extra stone it seams like you always need a little more.
Sorry I can't help with your time line question. there are to many variables in your question. A" guess" on my part would be 5 min. Do you have help on this job? It might be worthwhile to hire a day labor so he can spread the rock while you are shuttling it.

After seeing the overhead, I would think that would be the way to go. Any more updates on this? Could you do it this way?

Ok here is the latest. The board that runs these condos will not allow any rock left in the driveways for any extended period of time. They will not allow any type of heavy machinery on the lawns to tear up the grass. So back to my orginal plan of how to transport the rock as I explained it. I have measured everything and made a speadsheet of the cost of the rock and my labor amount based on the square footage. Here it is-tell me what you think.

In your bid, when you say

3. Next to Shannon's 386 sqft $127.38 material cost $289.50 labor cost

Are you saying this is how much you would be charging to add the stone 'next to shannon's'? Or does this mean something else?
