Lawn care business tips
Ok, i recently done a rebed mulch job, with me getting the weeds out, and remulching.

I get red cypress mulch for right under 20 a yard, he was 20 miles from where i pick up the mulch, i live in the middle of mulch and job.

So, being me making up for fuel, i fig the mulch at 50 per yard delivered.

I charged him 75 per yard to do those 2 beds, i got 150 on the mulch job, and had 1 yard left over! i done another ladys new install, and charged her 25 for a half yard, and 25 for bed edgers, the bed edgers i got cost me 33 cents a piece, i sold them at 1 dollar each to cover me edging int he bed.

So over all im thinking, how far is your job, or you get 20 a bucket load delivered? no..

So, you get 20 per bucket load, charge 50 per bucket load, 75 if you have to install and spread it.

however 20 per buckt load i hope is a 1 yrd bucketload

and how far is your delivery in miles to the job? This is what determines how much you need to tack on, if you drive it 30 miles, might want to get 80 per bucket, installed.

Just some thought, buy it 1x charge it 3x.

^^^ Oh CRAP, and it's on a steep hillside too!

My back hurts just thinking about pushing that wheelbarrow up there.

I did a job about that size by myself last year. That's a lot of mulch.
Sorry I can't help with the bid portion - good luck though!

You stated that your cost was going to be $380 labor and materials, is that including your pay? For example purposes lets say it is not.

Holy crap, i just figured out the numbers on the mulch at 3" deep thats roughly 34 yards and you can only haul 4 yards at a time? You might want to consider having it delivered, your cost to go back and forth.......um oh ya 9 times at 17 miles each way is 34 miles times 9 = 306 miles
Have it delivered my good man.

Ok, am i missing something here.........34 yards of mulch at your cost of $20.00 per yard is $680.00, Did i figure wrong on the amount of mulch needed to cover 3618 sq. ft.? How did you come up with $380.00 for labor and materials or are you not counting the mulch as materials.

How about some more info boog......
*How much does your help get paid per hr?
*How much per hr do you pay yourself?
*Is the companies profits included with your hourly rate?
*How long do you think all the work to be completed will take the three of you?

Throw us that info and we should be able to come up with a better bid for you.

I was added something wrong . Ok at 2" i will need 23 yards @ $20 a yard = $460
Two labors $10 a hour for one 8HR day is $160 that = $620 i know for sure i will have to spend. now how do i leave room for every thing else like extra materials gas, my pay ,equipment ect. what would be a safe estimate in case i will need the extra inch of mulch which will be 11 yards this is the biggest job i have had to bid on and i need the loot but i don't want to do it for free any advice is helpful and another thought would i pay my self $10 also ?

Default my estimate

here is what i have come up with this is 1st time for a job this size

Estimate
$1600-
$1020- labor , mulch & gas

that will leave me $580 to play with if i need extra materials + put money in the bank

how i came up with this is

3 men $10HR two eight hr days
34 yards mulch = $680
$100 gas i know will need bore just rough estimate.

dose this sound right ? i hope so

Are you only paying yourself $10 a hour? Plus where is your labor burden. If you are paying your guys $10 an hour it is probably costing you closer to $15 when you figure taxes and insurance.

This just seems low. What is your average hourly rate per hour that your company must charge to cover all your overhead including your salary? National average is around $45 a hour.
