Look at this ad!!! CRAIGSLIST

I was doing a search for craigslist ads around the country to get a feel for what everyone is using to sell themselves. Check out this guys ad, http://palmsprings.craigslist.org/fgs/2181716005.html He would be at the top of my list to call. I tried something like that a few days ago but I couldnt get it to post properly. I got the idea from another posting on this forum, but couldnt make it work. Any input guys? Sorry and Gals?

Remember California has very small lawns in the city. Some only 3-6 feet in depth on the front. Price still seems low though but that might just be the bait on the hook.

What he did was he saved his picture or ad he made to photobucket.

Once he did that, he got the url of the ad, the location of it 
and posted it into the following script:


<img src="replace between these quotes the url of the ad you made">


That is how to post it to craigslist.

You say "he would be at the top of your list".

Can you explain why? I'm curious what it is about his listing that "got" you. There is no right or wrong answer - I'm just curious.

Let me start off by stating NOT the price. However, I have gone to craigslist and done a nationwide search by randomly choosing states and randomly choosing metros, cities, and small town areas, to get an idea of whats out there as far as Lawn Service ads. 99.8% (rough estimate) of what I found were bland, boring, VERY similar to the next "Lawn Guy Service" posting ads. When I'm looking for a service, its not that I am looking for necessarily the BEST ad however, a nice professionally presented ad like the one mentioned in the posting earlier POPS and it gets noticed. Sticks in my head.

In my OPINION, whether others think its right or wrong, I feel that is what gets us noticed and better odds of being contacted by potential customers. If someone takes the time to put this kind of work into a posting on CRAIGSLIST they seem more likely to have a professional manner. Sooo many ads out there are using poor grammar and mispelled. They are all in BLACK AND WHITE, and almost ALL name the exact same services. So heres my question to some of you:

If you were in search of a particular service, no matter what it may be. How do YOU choose who you go with for that service if there are lets say 10 different companies advertising the exact same services. Every ad you find is black and white, offers the same services, free quotes ect. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE one guy from the next?

As a graphic designer, I can say that you are absolutely correct in that a color, well designed ad, will catch people's attention. I don't particularly find that ad to shout "professional", and depending on how a plain, "line ad" were worded, I may choose them over "this guy", but that's just a hypothetical scenario. In reality, this ad will "stand out" in a sea of text-only ads.

If I run on Craigslist, I will likely do a nice, color ad that appears more "upscale" in hopes that it weeds out the people looking to get work done at the lowest possible price.

I look for indicators that the advertiser is well-established, and has taken the time/effort to create an advertisement that is free of "gimmicks" and uses proper English.

You mite be the grate-est lawn cutter in the cownty, but if'n this iz how you prezent yorself, get used to sitting by the fone.
"I will mow your grass THE CHEAPEST!" is NOT a headline that would convince me to pick up my phone.
