Default Hello from Mobile, AL

Hi everyone, I am on my 3rd year of business. I started my company after i graduated highschool with a little help from the parents. I am a senior now in college still maintaining customers as a part time thing until i get out of college and go full time.. I first started off with a home made trailer, used $100 riding mower, one weedeater and one edger (used), and an electric blower!! REALLY NEWBIE, but you have to start somewhere right. Well one month later my entire trailer got up and walked away one day and was never seen again! So NEW equipment, I ran out to Home Depot cuz we know thats the best place, I got a 2006 rzt50 23kH and an echo weedeater and edger, and gas blower and 5x8 trailer pulled with my grand cherokee... 3 years later i still have the same equipment with the addition of a 2010 tank m48 with 25kH, another weedeater and edger, blower and push mower pulled around in a 16x8 vnose car hauler... Moral of my story is keep your stuff locked up and in good shape!! It helps.. Oh and read where to post stuff, I already posted in the wrong section haha.

Lawn care business tips
Welcome to our forum!

That is a very interesting situation you ran into with the theft of your trailer.

How were you storing it before it got stolen and how have you changed that since?

I think a lot of members could benefit from your advice on this.

When I first began I kept it at my parent's office (only two miles from the house) but on one of the most travelled roads in Mobile. It remained behind a 6' chain link fence with barbwire and pad locks (plural) on the gate.. But that did not stop a truck from cutting the chains off the gate and hooking up and going. I now no matter what I am doing keep locks on the ramp and side door along with receiver pin lock and a ball lock when not hooked up to trailer.. And although it is an enclosed trailer if someone really wants to they can get into it. So I keep it in well lit spots at night and always think about what can happen given the opportunity

Do you think it came down to the fact that it was visible from the road? Was that the biggest problem? If it weren't visible, do you feel that could have helped avoid this?

Yes visible, but at the time I had no better option.. We also had dump trailers and flatbeds, my trailer just happened to be the closest and easiest to haul away.. That's why i always make sure to lock up every trailer every time

Do you think maybe some wooden fencing around the trailer would have hid it better and might that have helped? Or maybe even one of those made out of a tarp?
