When my X749 thinks it can.....
|
|
It does laughing all the way to the bank.
Today I stopped by this afternoon to speed up our last sodding job for the season as it's getting cold at night and the sod arrived, the guys are pretty good with a box blade but they know if they can get me there, there is next to no raking so things fly, two guys on CUTS moving lawn soil, me with a box blade on my personal favorite 2520 and Isaac on the X749.
This place has an insane grade and it is very difficult to see in images but in a space of about 14 feet it raises a good 6 feet. The guys were saying Andy you should have brought Turfs for the 2520 to roll this, I said why there is a X749 on the trailer behind the truck, it will do it, all replies were no way and honestly I didn't think so either.
This is a new home, lots of contractors at this house and six others around it being built. A fellow came over to say he had operated a skid steer for 15 years for a landscaping company and was shocked at how fast we were and had never seen a box blade, then he said how in the blazes are you rolling that hill, just back blade? I said no we will use a tow roller behind a garden tractor, he laughed and said he could hardly wait to see the mess.
Guys she never even offered to spin a tire, I bet at one point 20 trades people were watching....once again these friggin machines are simply amazing.
The reason the X749 was on the truck in the first place is I had a 5 foot landscape bucket at home for one of our excavators on another site but nothing to lift it, then I thought there is a X749 home, I will tie it to the 3pt and see what happened, this bucket is made in Canada and stamped 690 pounds, it lifted it no problem, drove it onto the trailer....what a friggin machine.

I was thinking about your comment and our motto "Welcome Home To A Greener Lawn".......sometimes on the bigger jobs the lawn is green before we even lay sod or hydroseed as all the equipment is Deere

I was looking at those great pictures and thinking, when they are sold, do they have some literature that explains they can make it up such a degree incline or no?
It would be really interesting to know what kind of parameters they have to work with.

No, most of us on the tractor forum that have been driving tractors for over 30 years are shocked at these units, Deere doesn't sell a pile of them as they are desperate expensive, we have three and they run around $21,000 for the setup we buy so it's a pretty limited market, although they will out perform a ZTR, a ZTR is simply a fraction of the cost, dofference for us is we can afford them and they do so many projects from tilling to box blading, you can even put a loader on them.

How do their prices compare to larger units? Do you find that as the units get larger, the price doesn't seem as high? Or how does that work?

Andy, when you say outperform, do you mean speed wise?

Larger units are actually cheaper to a certain point. Each tractor serves a purpose, these units are amazing.
Out perform, where a ZTR will never think about mowing due to grade or wet conditions, these things play, a ZTR is a single purpose machine, this unit will do what a ZTR will do and a host of other things for us, if your box is mowing only then a ZTR is probably the answer, I work outside the box.

Also, I noticed there is no mowing deck on that tractor. Are they easy to take on and off or did you just not have one on there?
