I saw something yesterday while leaving a job site for lunch that really cought my eye.
We have all seen those fold up signs the real estate guys and gals use, they are about 3 feet high and 2 feet across, generally advertising an open house.
Well yesterday I saw one that said "We are in your area pressure washing" Call xxx-xxxx for a free quote.
It was big and it really cought my eye and I was thinking, not that is a super way to advertise.
In my case it could be used for
Pressure Washing
Chipping
Tree Cutting
Organic Fertilizer
and probably more but it could include things like lawn mowing, leaf clean up etc.
I should have taken a picture but was in traffic, if I see them again I will.

Lawn care business tips

Funny you mention that. I was planning on doing exactly that once I get some things finalized.
I wonder why I've never seen anything like that before around here... perhaps it's not as effective as I think it could be?

I personally think it very effective and maybe no one has cought on, it cought my eye and trust me I see so much advertising that it takes something pretty special to get my attention......the cute girl on the corner dressed in a Pizza seems to work also...LOL

Yeah, I toyed with the idea of mowing in a thong for the attention it would create, but I think there may be some ordinances that prohibit it - or there would be, soon thereafter.

Whatever it takes to get attention, many of the big guys have made their mark doing it.
On a serious note, try it, not the thong but the tent poster, we are in your area doing...........it would not cost much to have made, it could be one of those off the wall things that all of a sudden bring in business.
We all read about flyer's, mail drops etc here and elsewhere, they don't work because everyone is doing it, we need to do things others are not to get a leg up, this could be the ticket

Do you think that was temporarily set up for the job or for the day or maybe for even a longer period of time?
Did you happen to see the contractor anywhere near the sign or was it out near a busy intersection? Possibly with an arrow pointing in their direction like they use in an open house?
How about adding balloons to it?
And a take a card container?

That is a great idea. Has anyone seen the hard plastic style that you can insert your own message, some what like a bulletin board style?
i will see if i can find a pic of one.

Something of this nature, you could customize it to what ever you might be doing that day.
There are other styles, just the first one i found.
This one listed for $150.00

All excellent Ideas, the first was at the entrance to the subdivision which is off a fairly busy street, then about three blocks in I saw another....my brain was really going. I thought OMG this would blow us away when we start leaf clean ups and here is my thought.
We have lots of work so that is not the issue. I really hate moving one crew to four or five sites in a day as it no only costs money, I have to tie up trailers etc. Why not get two or three jobs in the same subdivision and get two or three of these made up. So I did, I contacted a company here that does my lettering and they are being made for leaf clean up, 32" wide, 48" high, I am getting 12, enough for four crews, lettered both sides.
Baloons are an excellent idea and mine are designed with a card designer, I have the folding parts with the card holders all made (I have a woodworking company as well), everything is at the printers. I used 1/2" marine plywood with exterior hinges at the top, the printing company will make the signs on an exterior grade almost like a foam core then these lettered foam core pieces slide into a track on the wood, idea is, we can easly change the insert based on the service being performed.....
I am willing to bet this is going to bring in massive amounts of business in the same areas.
Next year we will do it for pressure washing also.
