Bush Hog and Tree Job
|
|
We recently had a mild hurricane and the requests for wood cutting is somewhat off the map for us, I decided to take my helper Isaac to a site another one of my crew have been working on for three days and send them elsewhere.
I have been quite taken recently with the 3320 while my 2520 was down, I can go pretty much anywhere with the excavator and I was curious where the 3320 would go, my son who heads wood cutting jobs swears by the 3000 series which is fine, I tend to stick to the landscaping/drain/retaining wall projects and let him run the other side.
Well Gentlemen, I was shocked once again, this CUT has a real bad attitude in that if you ask it go go from here to there, regardless of the terrain within reason, it just does it, the tires on all our 3000 tractors are loaded as we do not want anything on the 3 pt.
First was to take our X749 and a bush hog and clear a path to the lake, we cleared the trees last year and the soil was basically compacted clay, they didn't want to spend a fortune so I did the old grow anywhere mixture, Timothy and Clover. I haven't run a bush hog this year personally, I was impressed and the client was shocked, this path is about 3/4 mile long, I was done in just over an hour.
Next we headed to the woods to clear and clean up the next section, this is a five year clean up of about 8 acres, beautiful spot. The 3320 is taking logs out to the road where a pulp truck will pick up.
Stay tuned for next week, the 2520 and 27D are doing a dream landscaping project on a new house, I will be using just about every attachment we have and it will be something else, nice when clients have an endless budget
The operator on the 3320 is Isaac, started with me about two weeks ago, grew up on a farm and man he can run the tractors!

Thanks bud, man I wish I had about 10 of you guys for a week, it would be a chance for me to catch up and an opportunity for me to show you how we land these jobs.....maybe a GTG next year at my place, I have room for at least 12 travel trailers on my property
Here is a couple more shots, an excavator is critical as many of the logs you simply can't lift so it loads them into the bucket of the tractor, the excavator or tractor will drag entire trees out much like a skidder using a twitch, then you have the mess, trees upon trees from storms, it's a dangerous job and experience is critical, I can't tell you how many widow makers we see every day on these sites (springpoles)
Here is a couple more shots I found this morning on my BB
Now I see we have another Hurricane coming, maybe Tuesday, some may think this is great news for business, I see it as a headache, I woke at 5 to three more inquiries, I am simply telling people and will have to put it on the website, we can not take on any further projects this year.

With you in such high demand, I wonder if some of these customers would be willing to wait for spring?

At this stage we have 11 jobs for May as I can't take them on, we started this season with just over 140 jobs which was nice but we never did catch up

No way andy, ill catch a plane and come to you, if Egore or Igore whatever its name is hits you..
Seriously!! I'll contact my Insurance and see if they can extend coverage into Canada. Me and 1 other 25 years of experience climber and 1 large groundy.
Well see how it plays out.

I realize the storm is 1,500 miles off and blowing 145 MPH however I understand the jet streams and the National Hurricane Centre in Florida in about 98% accurate in projections, I have followed every major storm for years and in this case, we are once again a direct hit, our problem is the ocean temps are warm, generally this time of the year we have experienced some cooling, not this year.
Guys if it hit's, as the Price is Right says, Come on Down.....we have the gear, trucks, saws, chippers, excavators, loaders, and safety gear, all you need is CSA/UL approved steel toe boots and they MUST have the label as the safety by-law guys are out in full force, they don't even bother to check us anymore as we are always way over the code on safety. I will pay for the travel and accomidations for experienced cutters and you will make more money here in three weeks than an entire season cutting lawns.

No need you would be covered under our insurance, just place you in an area, give you the equipment, helpers, let you bid and go to it. Holly co-ordinates everything from our office, she knows where everyone is by GPS, crews report in every hour, whe SMS's jobs to the crews, it works well, Deere gives me a driver, truck, trailer to help float at a daily rate, in short we have everything covered including food, water and supplies.

I will have to bring my climb gear, which shouldnt be a problem, but other than that it sounds good.. im checking into TWC now.
Andy, on the steel toes.. Does that apply to climbers as well? I know when working under the Army Core and Fema, climbers had a totally different set of rules compared to groundies. Like climbers dont have to wear chaps while in the tree but when on the ground we do.
It doesnt really matter tho i can buy some steel toes for working on the ground, as my Redwings are linesman boots with shanks but not steel toe ;(
So in Canada are climbers required to wear chaps while aerial? And /or Steeltoes or is there any exceptions?
