Are you listing under the "service" on CL ? I have ran ads all summer with zero calls.

Here are a few of my ads.

Diagnose Lawn Problems Free

Does your lawn have brown patches of dead grass?

We have an Organic solution.

We will diagnose and develop a personalize plan for Free. No Obligation

Lawn care account - $30

Still taking fall clients for leaf removal and lawn care. Don't forget about those gutters, I will make sure you are ready for fall rains.

Seasonal lawn care starts in September, Any problems you have had this season - now is the time to correct for 2011. Together we can help.

Why we went "Green"

Synthetic lawn chemicals i.e. herbicides, pesticides, chemical fertilizers endanger human and animal health and damage the environment. Scientific studies have found numerous negative health consequences associated with the synthetic chemicals found in traditional lawn care products. A report by the National Academy of Sciences shows that the health of 1 in 7 people are negatively impacted in some form by lawn pesticides; numerous studies link lawn chemicals to cancers and other long-term diseases; several studies also link exposure to artificial lawn chemicals to an increased risk of cancer and other health problems in pets. Children are especially at risk for negative health consequences due to their size, physiological development and proximity to the ground. Studies from Yale University, Mt. Sinai Medical Center and several others point to children's health risks associated with synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
Synthetic pesticides and fertilizers destroy the naturally present beneficial organisms in a healthy lawn's ecosystem making it biologically sterile. This destruction then transforms your lawn into an increasingly needy "junkie,"requiring more and more chemicals to sustain it. A green lawn does not mean a healthy lawn! In addition, up to 60 percent of synthetic nitrogen applied to lawns ends up contaminating ground water.
Even though going Green meant purchasing new equipment, costly training, enhanced application and mixing methods, and a culture change, we went Green June1st.
Our products actually build soil (Humus) over time. One gallon of our soil-conditioning product is the equivalent of seven tons of manure. Our products contain beneficial microbes, 30+ vitamins and nutrients, plant growth hormones, and are all 100% biodegradable. Our products help Nature help Nature. A healthy turf is weed free, disease free, utilizes water more efficiently, and increases home value with greater curb appeal.
We are extensively trained, and ready to serve. We give free estimates and consultations to residential and commercial clients, offer active duty military family and senior citizen discounts.

Matt where on craigslist do you place your ads? Under the farm and garden services? I was wondering if I'm not using CL correctly. So far this season the phone has been dead.

Thanks

The plain text ones that I have posted under farm & garden haven't gotten a lot of response. The HTML ones under farm & garden have made me busy. I also have posted 2 ads under labor section. These have not been as good. I have gotten a few calls but I think that the bots on craigslist have deleted most of them under the labor.

That means that the CL bots that peruse CL didn't like something about the ad and so they automatically removed it. I believe that while pics and links are okay in the Services section of CL, something about a clickable link in a picture is not kosher with CL.

There's also the remote possibility that someone doesn't like us on CL and so they spam flagged the ad until it was removed. But they don't flag the text ad so I don't think that's the case.
Very interesting! I haven't experimented much with them however I do wonder if a single spam flag submission by a competitor can immediately pull an ad off the site. Is this possible? The reason I ask is because I have never heard of cl bots, but the spam flagging seems so easy for a competitor to do.

I may have misused the term "bot", but this is an article on how to write a CL ad and keep it there. It briefly talks about ghosting.

It would be somewhat hard for a single competitor to wipe-out your ad, as CL keeps track of your ip address when you flag. You can use a proxy online, but I'm not sure if that even works, considering the free proxies are not very good. You can read more about that here:

Those are great ads!

How do you utilize your (postcard/doorhanger) marketing material? Also how do you track your ads to see where your customers are initially hearing of you?
