That is brilliant! You asked your clients a few questions. Possibly why they left their last lawn care business or why their lawn care business left them.

From that you got some great information and used that to further your marketing.

I can't wait to see the flyer. How will you be distributing that?

Very good work on that flyer!!! Excellent!

Here is the top of the flyer

With the picture, I am trying to think of a way to really make the image pop.

Maybe a question mark over his face? Or you could go the funny route to get people to look at the image and find a funny looking guy mowing a lawn?

Anything that gets a person to think WHAT!?!? and have to look at the flyer will be very helpful.

But all in all great job!

So you charge $40 per month for regular service, hmmm.

Here's an idea on how to make extra money. Teach me how to make a Craigs List ad in HTML and I'll Paypal you $40 & mow my own lawn!

Seriously, teach me how to do this. Which editor do you use?

Well first off yes for some small lawns I only charge $40.00. However, I have received 5 new clients from my ad and they all are paying $70.00 a month for service. I know some think I am underbidding and too cheap but the market here is real tight. Because of this, and because of my current situation which allows me to do so, I have set my hourly wage at $12.50.

Now to the important question. No need to pay me for the info, however, if you want me to make you an ad maybe I can have a side business LOL!! Any way I used the text editor on my Mac to make the ad. On a PC it would be like using wordpad. If you no a little about how to write HTML then it is easy. If you got to this link http://www.craigslist.org/about/help...stings/details it tells you what HTML Craigslist allows on there ads. If you go to this link http://www.craigslist.org/about/help...list_postings/ they give you some basic examples of how to write HTML. Another site that may help you in writing HTML code is here http://www.quackit.com/html/
Just make sure you check out and see if CL lets you use the codes you get from the quackit site.

Also the nice thing about CL is that you can hit continue and preview your ad. If you don't like just hit the back button and change it. Hope this helps you out. I can tell you that since I have been doing ads with HTML I get more responses then plain text ads. They take a little more time to create but they seem to work better. Someone also told me that you can put some kind of code in your ad that will block bots and spam but I don't know how to do this and don't know if it's true. If you got any questions hit me up always glad to help as long as you don't steal any of my clients, LOL.

On a side note to Steve. I like your suggestions and that is what I was trying to make look like, a missing persons poster. My idea was to not only distribute it throughout neighborhoods I wanted to get business from. But to also put it up on bulletin boards and telephone poles like a missing persons flyer. I just got slammed with clients I haven't been able to change it yet. Will do so soon.

Oh no, don't take what I said the wrong way. I know what you're up against. I retired out of L.A. & my gardener there mowed my lawn every week for $45 a month. You're in one of the hardest markets for sure.

That is awesome!

If you keep track of the response you got for this ad, it would be interesting to see how changing the graphic might effect the future response rate.

So I got an email link to this thread so I'm going to bump it with a question. I've been running a "fancy" CL ad but have now been BLOCKED. Anyone else have this problem? I've reported it through CL but haven't heard back. It makes me so mad seeing the guy that runs the $25 lawn ad almost daily(26 times in the last 30 days) and I can't run my ad at all now.

Do you have any idea what it takes to be blocked from craigslist?

Is it possible it had nothing to do with the content of your ad but instead it was a competitor flagging your ad?

No, I don't. Still waiting for response from CL.

I don't think it's a competitor because it won't let me post it at all. This is what I get instead
