Red face Flyers on doors considered "no soliciting" ?

Hi guys! My fiance and I are trying to get our new lawn business up and running. I have made up my own flyers and go door to door when i can. I dont knock. I put rubberbands and leave them on the door knobs. I cant find any solid information out there on the rules of putting a flyer on someone's house or community with "NO Soliciting" signs. Does anyone know the actual law and does it include or exclude simply placing a flyer on the door? please help..havent found a solid answer anywhere..April

Lawn care business tips
Regardless of any law, if someone put's no soliciting we should respect their rights as a homeowner and not place anything on the property, if one were to disregard the sign and do it anyhow, remember the old saying it takes 20 happy customers to offset one upset prospect.

come down to respect to me. If i see it I dont put one there. plain and simple.
Its going to vary law wise but I would expect the only thing by law u have to stay away from is the mail box.

Hi April,

Each community has their own laws on it. But if it is in your neighborhood why not just go out as a trial run and say hi to your neighbors, let them know you are starting a new business and see if they need their lawn cared for.

You will probably find you make more sales that way than just leaving a flyer.

What other kinds of marketing are you doing?

You bring up a good point i know this isnt my post but has anyone had success going door to door like that.

When I first started out trying to save flyers I knocked trying to get the name out n all. out of maybe 100 houses no one was intrested all had excuses or did it themselves. (Maybe it would work better in a high end nieghborhood where every house uses that service.) Also waisted almost a whole day moved different area with same results.

The way I figure there are 2 ways to advertise. The way they come to you and they way you find them. They way they come to you is thru listings on internet and newspapers, and word of mouth; most effecient in my eyes when done right. When you look for them you need to talk or notify(flyers) as many people as possible. So I dont waist time any more knocking unless its a street im already on saying i work on so n so house.

Ive had success doing thing this way but my could be way off n a few areas. Plus Im introverted so thats harder for me to do that type of thing anyways.

Anyways has anyone really had success knocking? (steve out of all the post have you heard this?)

If I see a no soliciting sign, i don't put a flier there.

as far as going door to door....it's a number's game. You must do a large number of houses 500, 1000, 5,000 or so then you will get results. I've had good results from posting door hangers. Posted about 100 in an area and got 5 jobs...no lawns but good sized landscaping jobs.

In another area i posted about another hundred and got another job (bout $2000 job) Both these areas were really different so That's why I say it's a numbers game. don't think because the area doesn't look rich, that they don't need the services.

Craigslist has done very well for me. I also started service magic two weeks ago. i had 2 calls and got both jobs.

In my town you can put fliers on doors, but if you are talking to people you need a permit which is 35$.

The way I see it, a sign stating No Soliciting means just that. No sales or advertising for sales is wanted. Simple as that. Door hangers have never worked for me, and I can respect people's viewpoints on not wanting to be disturbed. I view the sales world as this: If I want something, I will go buy it. The more someone annoys me with a sales pitch, the more they turn me off about their product or service. I think you'd be better off buying a radio add or having your add in the yellow pages. The best advertising I've found is vehicle lettering, a clean vehicle and equipment, and a happy customer!

This is a very interesting point we havent talked much about on here. How do you feel being introverted effects your ability to promote your business or even run it? What kinds of things do you feel someone who is introverted needs to do to find success?

well Ive run crews before and ive always been a numbers guys so running the business hasnt been to hard. But I find it hard to just talk to people and some how or another drum up business that way. Never really passed out business cards to complete strangers cause Im just not that social. You ask me a question or call me I can sell you on almost anything(very informational with the way I talk). Its just that first step thats always been the hardest for me start a conversation. Plus some people are easier to talk to than others.

As for what it takes to be successful as an introverted person. I cant tell you. I just started... Ive run neigborhood lawn maintenance as a kid later christmas lights but thats not really running a business as I continue to learn, great base for learning but not real business in my eyes.

So I guess we will see what it takes. For now I just focus on getting the name out and being patient. Ive worked hard on my website(it shows one the first page in a few catagories on google), used almost every free service(lucked out with google map shows first page), quality work(word of mouth), and nice clean equipment/crew(just me for now).

Dont want to get all holy on you but God really does play a part as well.... just sayn....

Anyways enjoy your weekend guys...
