How the founder of Sam Adams bottled lightning. - Koch, now 61, says he tries to follow the advice his father gave him when he was starting Sam Adams. "He told me, 'People don't drink the marketing, they drink the beer,' " Koch recalls.

This is a great business lesson. We can create all the marketing we want. Send out letters, hang door hangers and pass out flyers. We can promote lawn care for as cheap as cheap can be or as expensive as the customer will pay. But in the end, it all comes down to the service provided.
