Default Web Site is up and running - Thanks GopherHaul

Well I did not go out and do any lawns today. Instead I worked all day on my website. I am not the best when it comes to this but I needed something out there that was cheap. So I found a template that I liked here on GopherHaul and thanks to them I was able to get it done in a day (a very long day). So now it is at least up and running. And yes I know that I need to do some changes on it but it will work to get me out there for now. Any suggestions or comments are appreciated. I can turn the outside of your house into a masterpiece but when it comes to the web stuff I ain't got a clue. Thanks again Gopher it was a lot easier with you, and yes you will see my donation coming soon.

The first thing that I noticed was that you do not have your phone number or email on the home page. Also the number and email need to be at the top of the pages.

Think of how you surf and what you look for. Make it easy for them to find you and contact you.

Other than that the site looks good.

Thanks for the advice. I changed it around and think that you are right it is better now. I had been working on it all day and hadn't even realized that my contact info wasn't on the home page.

Make the email on the home page clickable. I looked at your prices and they look low. I would assume in Carona you could charge more than me and my basic service is $40-$50 per month, I have one that's $200 per month but its about an acre to cut down.

I started out at $40.00 a month. The problem is that here in Riverside their is a lot of competition with several "fly by night" guys who are cheap. They are charging less and get the job. However, the customer is usually not happy with the service. So to start out and get the contract I have come down on the price. Once they are pleased with the service I provide I can go up some on the next contract.

I would stray away from that idea. I did that and people hate price increases. Honestly they would rather pay less for crappy work. I do business by the idea that they may not call me today but after there lawn gets hacked they will call me next week, then it will cost the twice as much to fix the hack. I hold strong to my prices. Some people never call back but most people do. The 3 biggest complaints I get are.

#1- Unreliable, this is the biggest complaint from new clients. There last lawn guy would never show up on the days or times he was suppose to and when he did he missed spots, hit sprinklers, stole things, the list goes on

#2- Contracts. The clients I have spoken to hate them. They complain about having to pay even when no work is done or needed just because they are stuck in a contract. I dont use them and dont plan on starting.

#3- Pushing other services. The bottom line is if they want a deck re stained they would ask for it so shut up, mow the lawn and have the bill there by the 30th. Most clients I have spoken to feel lawn care providers are on the same level as Jehovah witness. They just hate having to deal with them. They want there lawn mowed and generally most of the time want to pay right away. If I see a safety or environmental hazard of some sort I will bring it up and offer to take care of it. Otherwise I just do my job, shoot the **** and make them feel good and move on to the next. 99% of the time if someone wants something done they will call within the week of there next service and ask for it to be done.

As far as the website goes though it looks good. Put the following in place of your email to make it clicksble
"newleaf@ca.rr.com"

This way people can just click your email to open there email application and send you a message. One other thing I just noticed is clients like if you have payment methods on your site such as

Check
cash
paypal
so on and so forth

On your photos page it may not be possible but try making your photos the same size but smaller so clients dont have to scroll such as mine below
http://www.foothillherps.com/yardwork/photos.htm
The more information they can see without having to scroll for it the better off and more likely they are to contact you.

Are you sure about these prices?
"Weekly Basic Service $30.00 per month"

So you will go to their house and mow their lawn (up to 5000 sq. ft) for $7.50?

I wont even get out of my truck for less than $25 per stop. I cant believe you can (or will) do it that cheap.

Just checking.

That just made me realize a typo in my reply, I charge $40-$50 per visit not per month.

Thanks for the help on the website jasonw. I did change the email. What do you use to make the pics the same size? I can see how that would look better just don't know how to do it.

Will I go out for $7.50 to get started yes because for now I can afford to do so. If it gets my foot in the door then it is worth it. I have two clients that have liked my work and my prices enough that they now want me to do some bigger projects for them. So these will not be cheap but they like my service so they have given me the go ahead to do them. So if it keeps getting me other jobs it works for me. I know have my week full with work and that's what I need for now.
