What do you have to do it with? I use the Dr. Lawn Vac's behind an X749 GT Deere, would take about 30 min tops, one guy on the tractor, one guy blowing, we would get around $90.00

It has sticks, small tree limbs too. I'm using a hand held blower as it is my first year starting out in the business. It has also 3 small piles of leaves about 3ft wide and 1ft high which need to be blown away. Its my next door neighbor so I can just blow all the leaves to the edge of the property to the hedge where there compost is. But I'm thinking about charging $150. This is because it is a solid 3/4 acre of area where there are leaves and sticks and that will have to picked up not blown.

I feel it will take me 2 to 3 hours. It has large limbs and you cant use a blower on a 4 inch think limb 5 feet long. But I called up the home owner they are 3 houses down from me. They are the only liberal people in my whole town of 16000 people they stand out like a sore thumb. So they don't understand that I am I business to make money not just money to blow on weekends. Know me since I was in kindergarten graduated High School with there youngest daughter. But I told her 150 and willing to negiotate alittle. But i wont go below 135. They have the worst yard on the road. They use a 21inch push mower to cut 3/4s of a acre. So if I dont get it you need to accept no.

You have to figure out all your operational costs so you know how much it costs you to operate per hour.

But $150 for 3 hours would be $50 an hour. That doesn't sound bad at all.

Isn't it fascinating though how the difference in equipment can make jobs go faster and be cheaper for the customer?

It's great to keep in mind as you scale up your business in the future.

Keep us posted on how this turns out. Take photos too if you can before / after.

Well no response so far from them. But Monday I went to a local landscaping company and applied for a job. Meet the owner he asked if I could work Saturdays and had a drivers liscences for the state of new jersey which I do. Filled out the application wrote down Eagle Scout, Volunteer Fireman. Told him I've never run a zero turn but can run a tractor. He said I can teach you no problem. He left maybe spoke to him for all of 5 minutes then he had to run. Gave the app to his secretary. Got a call today from him missed it cause I was at my other job. He left me a voicemail heard my message with my business name. So I called him right back and he asked if I was in business too and I said yes and I told him I just started this year. Talked about landscaping and how I plan on taking courses next year with continuing education. And I got the job start Saturday at 7. Starting is $10 a hour. I plan to learn as much as I can from this experience and I hope it works out well. It really made my day cause I just got dissed again for my age from a insurance company. No is taking me seriously cause of my age and they think I'm just some kid cutting his neighbors grass.

Well, let's say you've got a head start on all of us here.

With your interest in all of this at such a young age, imagine where you will be when you are my age, or even older!

I wish I thought of this when I was your age, I would be on a beach full of strippers by now.

Keep fighting the criticism, never give up. I believe you will make it big.

People with Jobs: 16-21 years of age
People with Careers: 25/30-60 years of age

Those are my personal statistics on what I see.

You have 6-7 years or so more to gain experience in this field than I do. When you start yourself officially (& when people will see you as an adult), you will begin with a bigger BANG than everyone here!

NEVER GIVE UP!!! Learn everything you possibly can from other people, in order to use it in the future!

You can do it!

(I don't remember how old you are, but a lot of newcomers have been 14-15 years old these past few days) :P

Well went back today to give him a schedule for the summer since I work at a local summer camp. Told him I'm having trouble getting insurance and he is giving his Insurance company a call for me. And doesn't understand why people won't give me a shot. But he also started his business 20 years ago. And he is a huge deal in the town has the biggest company out of 30 companies in the area.
