Hey guys. I have a question about sod. This guy contacted me yesterday and wanted me to give him a bid on installing sod. Well as I was talking to him it was for 300 houses. He wanted a quote to include grading (I don't know how the land is), sod, installing sod, permits and a permit for using a fire hydrant. He wants this price per sq yard. What would you guys charge per sq yard? Anything would help. I have installed sod and I know it is very labor intensive. Thanks

How much can you get your sod for? How much sod do you need? We charge 300 a pallet. But 300 homes would drop that price alot if for no other reason than the mexican's that will do it for 50 pluss the sod. If they were very small at 1200sqft that would be 4 pallets a house. so 800 a house x 300 = 240,000. With about 120,000 in sod. Thats charging about 100 a pallet to put it down and 100 for the sod. With that much you could probly get it for 50 a pallet which would bring you down to 60,000 in sod so you could do it for 120,000

I think if memory serves when I worked with a sod company(grew and installed) was 10 cents a sq ft 400$ minimum and 32 cents a sq ft for the sod, free delivery after 600sq ft i believe. They didnt do any grading work but rolled it and fertilized afterwards. See if there is a sod company that does installs let them do the work they set up for it(ie. forklifts, man power, skills) and just have them do the work if 50 60 dollars per 600 sq ft palet if to little for you. Then you just do the sprinklers and grading.

whats with the fire hydrant?

Most houses around are 10000-12000 sqft. Its 250sq per pallet. $0.21 per sqft. plus delivery charge. witch is around $100. Plus the cost to unload. I think for a semi load its $100. So you are saying you would charge $.10per sqft to install? Wow that seems very low. I would not even waste my time with that. Any ideas for price on bobcat work to be done?

Lol thats not what I said I charge thats the company that laid me off when this economy took a dump charged. 2nd biggest sod supplyer and we had 6-7 man crews that could install 30K sq ft a day easy 50K a day if it was big rolls. Like I said they were set up to do it and new what they were doing so we did it faster then the other companies out there. Did a lot of installs for landscape companies off the top my head gothic, AAA landscape, Valley Crest, and a few others and those are big comanies in AZ. So ya just my 2 cents, But your sod is a defferent veriety and comes in different sq ftages.

10000 sq ft is $1000 thats a 3 hr job for that company 6 guys 8$ plus pick up drop off hour so 5hrsx6guysx8$=240plus foreman salary average 150day plus install bonus $25/10K sq ft So 240+150+25+ lets say 250 in over head thats less than $700 and they could do another job after that. so 300+ in profit not a bad.

Those guys work fast I take my hat off to them made my job easier...

250sqft is a small pallet. Here they are 400-500. We charge about .75 a sqft. Thats every thing. If it's a small job then we will add another 50 per pallet. So for a 400sqft pallet your looking at 300 each installed. Can you handle the cost and labor on a job like this? If not then sub it to a sod farm. Even if you only make 50 a pallet or even 25 you wont even be getting dirty. Your looking at 300,000 sqft of sod. Thats 7500 pallets at 400sqft. At 25 a pallet your going to bring in187500 with out touching it. At a 100 a pallet it will cost you750,000 dollars to buy the sod. I dealy you would charge 2,250,000 dollars for the total job but I think you would be way high on that bid. I would expext they want to pay way less with that volume as you will on the sod. You coulf get that much grass here for 50 a pallet it will cost 375,000 in material and at just 50 a pallet to install the total cost would be 750,000
