Question I don't even qualify as new. Need advice

I haven't started a business yet. I ran a small business in lawncare about 6-7 yrs ago. I was pretty small. I only had about six yards. I am thinking about starting up again but not to sure. I am in the in the Indianapolis area and during the summer everywhere you go you can count about 5 truck and trailers out mowing lawns. Are all areas this saturated?

A friend of mine works for a large company and he is telling me stay out of the business. He says it has turned cut throat and EVERYONE is lowballing everybody else out.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Lawn care business tips
It seems to be this way across the map, I know if I had to rely on lawn mowing only last year, I would probably be dead in the water as there are so many fly by night companies out there so I quickly went at it a different way and offered services the others were not.

Welcome to our forum!

What made you get out of lawn care in the past? Do you feel the skills you learned in the past can help give you a competitive advantage now when you get restarted?

I got out of the business do to inexperience. I didn't know anything about advertising. I placed some about 200 door hangers out and handed out a few cards. I was younger and didn't really have any form of guidance. A buddy of mine ran a business. Well I tought he was a buddy. Turns out I was just a person he could dump bad accounts on. And also, bought my equipment for dirt cheap when I decided to get out. Again, do to my inexperience and lack of knowledge. I am older and wiser now. Although I am starting to meet resistence from my wife about starting a new business. I am currently a career fireman and I am looking for a way to make money on my days off and enjoy what I do. So I can't decide weather to start or spend another year on the sideline...

You point out a lot of good points here.

Can you tell us a little how this was working so others that might be in similar situations can look out for it?

When you look back on this now, how do you feel you would handle it with what you know now?
