Default LAwn Renovation

How does everyone here do lawn renovations.

I typically-

Kill the weeds

Thatch if needed

Aerate

Spot Patch and top dress with seed and soil

?

What is your going rate?

What is typical?

1,500 Square foot lawn is 375.00 way too cheap, too expensive.

I know I post pricing questions a lot I just like to check them to make sure they stay on point.

Too high or too low can kill a business.

I know the over head figures but this isn't always competitve pricing sometimes it's too high or low. Any thoughts?

Lawn care business tips
I have yet to see two lawns that were the same for turf dressing so I quote based on the amount to be done, basically cost X 2.

For Thatch and Aeration we have sprays that deal with this so it's based on sq/ft however we add to the mix weed control, fertilizer and other products to make a healthy lawn.

I was figuring 1.5 Yards of Dressing seed Mix that includes patching the bald spots and 1/4" on the rest.

What would you ball park it at it is about a square and level. 1,500 Square feet.

Actually I have a pic.

I know it should just be totaled and redone but she just wants a renovation so I said I'd do what I could

Anybody got any ideas?

The images didn't come through.

My cost on Organic Turf Dressing is $52.00 a Yard so in this case it would cost the customer $156.00, We use a cold climate kentucky blue grass it is $148.90 a bag and covers 10,000 sq/ft so the client's cost for seed would be $ 44.67, $89.72 to spray with all 7 products after which it varies depending on the lawn and could be as little as $45.00 per spray.

We use a landscape rake to spread the turf dressing so it goes super fast, if the site is big enough I can spread 15 yards an hour.

Here it is on our smallest loader tractor, I have the R4's on in this image however we generally run HPAP's or Turf's on lawns. This year I will pull the rake with the X749 which does not have a loader. Works excellent and has Hydraulic angle and pitch, this saves time on many lawns depending on what we are doing, this rake does an amazing job at removing thatch also.

The wheels are on in this image, I suspect we must have been doing a driveway when I took the picture, the wheels make the surface perfectly flat and smooth, this tractor is a 2305 and does not have what we call the fixed float ability that our other tractors have, therefore we have to run wheels when using this tractor to ensure the surface is flat.

that's a sweet set up for sure.
I couldn't run anything like that here, as the st augustine would get torn up.
I wish we could grow rye grass down here, but as soon as the summer kicks in , the rye dies.

We mix rye grass in as it responds so quick and the client sees the results within days but as you note it doesn't last that long, when it is starting to die off the Kentucky Blue Grass has taken hold and generally taken over. This was a trial and error and a lot of pain to get the right mix.

Tried that grow anywhere grass we see advertised and the results were very poor at best, we did a landscaping project for a client in mid May, he wanted to be part of the process and seeded our work himself and rolled it, we went back and sprayed.

I was by his place a week later and was honestly shocked he had as much grass as he did, I stopped at the end of the work day to ask what seed he was using, we started using it and have never looked back although I do mix Rye grass in with it.

I'm not familiar with the grass you mention so I am not sure what the landscape rake would do, I can however change the pitch so that it does not damage the grass that much.

St. Augustine grass spread on top of the ground via stolons, kind of like a vine. Not like individual blades coming out of the dirt.

Would that be your entire costs to do the job times two? Or do you only x 2 with the topdressing material expenses?
