Check this story out. UPS has switched over to a new transmission that will save them 60 to 70 percent on fuel. Can you imagine if and when the auto industry get these transmissions into pickup trucks. Wouldn't that be great to be able to save that much on fuel costs?

UPS, EPA unveil much cleaner delivery truck - Based on EPA patented technology, the truck’s transmission has been replaced with hydraulics and packaged with a low-emission diesel engine. That hybrid combination yields a 60 to 70 percent savings on fuel use and a 40 percent cut in gases tied to global warming.

I remember reading about those, supposidly allison is working on a small transmission like that for the GM trucks. That would be great if they did that. I think GM has some sort of hybrid truck coming out already though, and its not just the E85 capable stuff, its an actual hybrid.

they will get here, just who knows how long till it happens..
But here is some other cool advances..

Electric/diesel

gm buses

i also am a big fan of "bio diesel" and have thought about running it in my truck

I live 1 mile from the GM Tech Center, so i get to see some cool stuff sometimes...they dont do a good job trying to "hide" the prototypes when they take them on the public roads.

If you can get bio diesel cheap in your area or if you have the time to make your own, do it!

I started buying up some stuff last year to start brewing my own but never made actual bio diesel, I ran a mix of waste veggy oil and diesel but then a guy I know that is really good with biodiesel told me it could have long term effects on the engine I stopped. I orderd a good book on brewing bio diesel, you can get it at b100.org I think, it was 18 bucks and tells you everything you'll ever need to know to make it. I'm thinking this winter I'll start playing around with it.
