What I am looking for is a per zone or per head price

the current quote is for a 4 zone system.

1. clean out around, and adjust the heads.

2. replace any broken heads or heads that are not working due to mature landscape.

3. and adjust timer.

anything I'm missing here?

Cant give you that. One big tree root and you got an hour just digging a hole. One zone could have 5 pop ups while another has 14. One zone might not need anyhing while another needs every head reset and cleaned. Charge them 35-40 to test the system then let us know what you find, maybe then we can help with that type of bidding. Any number I or anyone else gives off this info would be a shot in the dark

CK, I like that plan, do a test fee and then bill hourly + cost of materials from there. Thanks

Anyone else with suggestions post them up

When you are working on an irrigation system and you tell the customer it is $35 an hour, do they ask for a ballpark on how much it will be total? How do you handle that?

When does this become a factor? When you are installing or servicing an existing system?

If I'm doing sprinkler work it's either a client or a ref so no it's not a problem with an open ended price. I can give you a ball park but like I said you get a head next to an oak tree and that might be an hour. Let me have 4 of those and that round about figure I gave, is out the window and you now look like a theif. As far as un seen trouble... Well they can be anywhere on new or old jobs.

If you got a broke wire you might find it in 10min or 3hr. Start digging and find that you got a whole bunch of rock under ground. Now you went from 5min a head to 20min a head. You think the cylinoid is bad and it turns out it needs a valve.

It sounds like a lot can go wrong with irrigation jobs that may not initially look to be the case!

Do you have any disaster stories that really taught you a lesson from the experience where you thought it was going to be a simple fix and it turned into a big problem?
