Question Business Blog

I had a question about a business blog. I don't have enough money for a website, or HAVE a website. I was wondering if blogging would be a good idea to just show my customers what I CAN do. Would that be a good idea or bad idea??? Please help - would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Lawn care business tipsLawn Care Business Book
Sure! I would think any little bit would help!

Aren't there free sites you can set up a blog on?

What kinds of things are you thinking to put on there to attract potential customers?

Yes, there is blogger, which I use. It's easy and free, verses paying for a domain name and going through setting up a website. I thought about putting customer's pictures (with permission already) up there so people can see what we can do. I'm kind of weary of putting my phone number on there, because blogger goes EVERYWHERE. Do you think if someone really likes what I have to offer, they'll email me? Just a thought.

We are very small right now, because our plan was to get this company started so we (my husband and I) can work together and do things the way they should be done. Everything needs to be nice and neat, and at the end of the day, we feel good that we've accomplished something and made people happy.

I am also wanting to hire people (even people with special needs) in the future to help with jobs in this economy. But if I'm not working, no one else will be either. I've been watching your videos and reading a lot on your website, and I've been learning a lot of good ideas that I would have never thought of. Thanks!

Having a blog is better than nothing. Wordpress and Blogger are 2 that you can get free blogs on.

As far as a web site you can get one for as little as $10 per year. You also get email and apps with that also.

Google Sites is where you would get that. My site is constructed on Google Sites and the blogs are Blogger.

You need to put your number out there. Most people are like me, they find a site they like and call the phone number. I don't like to deal with someone that I can not talk to.

What you can do is get a magic jack for $40 and $19 each year after that then forward that number to your cell or home when you want to take calls and then turn it off when you don't and it will go to voice mail. That is what I do. Although I usually always have it forwarded to my cell phone. I got a job because I answered on a Sunday. 5 minutes of my time on a weekend for a $200 job sold over the phone.

Good points Pat.

What other things are you going to be doing to further promote your business? I would think the blog would play a small part in your larger marketing campaign.

As far as I know there are sites like godaddy.com web hosting that are really cheap and they have a way for you to set up your blog software on there for free.

The benefit of that would be you'd have your own domain name and could do anything you wanted with your site.

Wow! Thanks guys! I really appreciate the help. I was looking at GoDaddy.com and it seemed pretty nice. I'm going to call them though because I want to make sure of what I'm getting. I already have AT&T advertising in the yellowpages for me. They're pretty cheap too. I was surprised how many customers I had after I added us to yellowpages in late July. My goal this year is to work on advertising more than anything (well, other than working in tbe business). I'll check them out because I'd rather have a domain name and my own website than a blog. ALthough the blog would just be for fun really. Thanx for all your help guys!

You can have both and the blog is free.

I have 2 blogs and they are both from blogger.

http://docscleaningadvice.blogspot.com

And

http://roofcleaningadvice.thecleaningdoc.com

One I leave as a blogspot.com and the other one I added as a subdomain of my web site www.thecleaningdoc.com This way I have 2 blogs. I also have another web site that I started out with but changed my company name but I still have the domain and site up and running.

After 9 months of work for the key words "roof cleaning Clarksville, TN" 16-17 of the first 20 results have to do with my company some how. Web sites, blogs and BBS posts all appear there. My competition is not to be found on the first page without them paying to be there.

You can't be satisfied with just being on the web you have to work at it all the time if you want to get to the top. I have skipped out on a lot of fun over the last few months just to get to this point so now I can slow down. There were a lot of 2 or 3 am nights. You have to want it bad enough and work at it to get it.

I make it a point to do 1 hour a day doing something. Facebook, digg, twitter, blogging, changing site etc. You have to do something every day to have constant content change. I started Digg 2 days ago and it is already on the first page.

For those reading this post wondering, what is the benefit of two blogs vs. just one? And should they have the same content or different content?

With our one forum member thinking the blog would really only be for fun, it sounds to me like this is not about fun to you. This is serious marketing that results in more business for your company.

What is your view on the importance of the blog?

How does a lawn care business owner go about choosing the proper key words to go after and then how should they harness them to bring in new potential customers?
