Default New Business

Hello everyone my name is Jeff West with Freedom Lawn Care and I use the slogan Marine owned and operated to help put america back in business. I served 8 years and did one tour in iraq back in 2007. I have been doing lawn care maintenance and landscaping for about 2 years. I enjoy doing this and want to grown my business. Though I have just started I have picked up several monthly jobs and learning alot on this forum. My biggest problem is finding new clients. I have emailed cemetaries, property management companies and Home Owners Associations, and get mostly the same answer that I have to wait to bid on a job in the next few months. Any other avenues i should try. Tomorrow I am going to go out and hand out flyers to residential homes. Are there any tips about this or different avenues that I should try?? Thanks for all your input!

Lawn care business tipsLawn Care Business Book
flyers are a wast of time and money, Newpaper works good, CL from all the bad rap and what others have done on it im not sure if that would help, Getting a web might help you, Phone book works really good for the older people.

Default I use door hangers exclusively

and in 11 weeks I have 21 customers so I have to disagree with mblack14. YMMV. I'm in Florida and it is not unusual to sit at a traffic light with four other lawn companies. Where I get gas, I've counted eight other LCO's there filling up. It's pretty competitive here.

For my flyers I use colored paper with a flyer I print myself on my cheap laser printer. I have two flyers per page printed vertically. I staple a rubber band to the top and have at it.

I've put out 1700 flyers and have done no other advertising.

I'm into my first full season and I have to say that Craigslist has been a blessing. I was afraid to use it initially - thought all I would get was cheap ba$tards looking for the lowest price they could find. I was wrong.

Results may vary depending on location though. I'm near a city, so there are PLENTY of people looking for lawn care services on Craigslist. I gear my ad toward the areas of town that I most prefer to work in - the areas that pay more.

I had some success with snow removal flyers in the winter. Keep in mind that many areas require a solicitation permit to go door to door.

Good luck and thank you for your service.

Default No Luck

I have not yet had any luck with craigslist. I once downloaded an WYSIWYG for making my craigslist ad look amazing instead of the boring text. But it keeps getting deleted by craigslist for some odd reason. So I use the standard text and have not had much luck with it. I have handed out flyers and recently printed post cards that I will be mailing this week. Hopefully I will pick up some new clients. Thus far I got alot of maybes and one for sure contract. I will let you know...

Visit your local Realtor Board and ask if you can bring food to one of their events. They have classes all the time and love free food.

Please let us know what works for you!

Thanks!

Jeff,

Welcome to our forum.

You have a great personal story. Could you contact your local paper with a short press release about how you had served in the military and now you are running your own lawn care business? Especially with that great business name of yours.

If the local paper came to interview you, I bet you could pick up a lot of new business.
