Default Who has done this + help with an estimate

First yard went to look at it on Saturday morning. Met with the gentleman walked the lawn, discussed what he wanted. Agreed on a price. I told him Monday morning. Today I went to mow the house, knocked out the front and was working on the small side before going in the back. A lady comes out of the house, I stop say hi and shoot the breeze for a second. She asked me if I was the new neighbor? No. She said " So Mike finally bit the bullet to get somebody to mow his lawn?" I said "yes maam", thinking to myself "I didn't remember the gentleman I met telling me his name was Mike. I went back to work and started to enter the back yard gate when I realized something was wrong! That wasn't the back yard I looked at!

I went back to the truck, pulled out the trusty Iphone and checked the address on the mailbox against the address on the contact form. YEP wrong house. Good thing to cause i was kicking myself for bidding it at what I did once I started mowing.

The lady came out about this time and I told her I was at the wrong house. I said your lucky son-in-law is getting a free mowing today! we talked for a bit, She took a card and said she would send me a check. We will see if it happens or not. The lady told me her son needed someone to mow the yard for him, so maybe I will get this one too. I wasted alot of time today on this yard.

Always double check Garmin. This house was 22203 and I was suppose to be at 22403

On the other note. I got a call for a yard today, standard mow etc. but the lady has 15 bags of mulch she wants put down and wants two Hibiscus stumps removed and replant two orchids in their place.

Also the Mulch in her beds currently looks pretty deep, what is the collective thought on removing old mulch before putting in the new? how much to charge for that.

I appreciate your help

Lawn care business tips
I would leave the mulch there, it will help hold moisture and help as a weed barrier in the long run. Put mulch on top as if it weren't there. Don't skimp on the new mulch.

"God Works In Mysterious Ways" I have never cut the wrong yard after being there and seeing it to give a quote. I think she will send a check and call you back too! Good Luck!

That's one you'll remember! LOL

As far as the quote, doesn't sound like that much work. Give her a good price and tell her you appreciate her business. That will pay dividends down the road.

As Sprinkler Buddy said I would also recommend leaving the mulch and will eventually benefit her even more as it is continues to become compost. This is why when I install new mulch I only use fabric for about 12-18" around the bed so that the new mulch at 4" can do it's job and eventually break down into the soil.

May want to check under any stones or decorations laying on the old mulch to see if there are termites in the beds as well.

Hahahaha!!! You may have found a new marketing angle. Sort of like those guys who run up and wash your windshield at a stop light - they've done the "job" - better pay up! LOL!

The closest I've come was taking a call about a lawn that needed cut badly. The guy was at work but said "If it's under $60, just cut it while you're there". I looked it over, decided it could be done for that price, and unloaded the mower.

I had an uneasy feeling that I may be at the wrong house, so I called him back and asked him to describe the house to me so I was sure I was at the right place. LOL!
