Hello,I'm new here and this site looks very interesting.I live and work in Tn. just outside of Nashville.I've been in the lawncare biz since 1986.I'm still working fulltime aswell.I hope to retire in maybe 4 years and just do lawns from then on.

About 10 yrs ago I had a 3 man crew and was doing pretty good till I got lowballed real bad and so I just went back to doing it all myself.I think I actually make more money this way and less headaches.

Being that you have had the experience of dealing with low ball bids, what is your view on the best way to compete with them or more to the point, how can a business owner survive in such an environment?

It's tough.With all the illegals here and coming in everyday it gets harder each year.All we can do is try to be honest and fair. Try to win your customers friendship along the way. Give them any discount you can for referals or anything you can.Don't do it for nothing but try to keep them happy.

Do you keep your eyes open to offer services the newer start ups can't offer or is that not something that is important and you would rather focus on your core services?
