Default What's My NAME???

Yeeaaaahhh... you know it...

HEDGEMASTER!!!

LOL!

My hedges before...
(Awww... wook how cute and fuzzy)

I tried out my trimmer attachment, but only buzzed the fist cut on the top, as it was a bit unwieldy for the job. (note the added handle - it helped a lot)

I've never actually placed a level on them before, and I don't know what made me do it, but I nearly fell over when I saw just how level they were. LOL!
The rest isn't as "perfect", but they're good enough that the neighbor tells my wife that she wishes I'd do their hedges instead of her husband.

Hope you enjoyed the showing off.

Lawn care business tips
That would make for some excellent marketing material! WOW you could really stand out using that photo of the level on your hedges.

That is really showing attention to detail.

hedges look great hedge.

but on a lighter note. I hope you didn't do the mulch for the gardens for this client. If ya did i have a good tip for ya. If you didn't then the previous lawn guy's screw up can become your $$$$ maker.

The mulch was installed improperly. As much of the industry may or may not know. You never build the mulch up around the trees/shrubs in a volcano style. This is very bad. To learn the reason why and how to properly apply it. goto here -> http://www.hortus5.com/journal/say-n...volcanoes.html or read all about it here ->http://www.treesaregood.com/treecare/mulching.aspx

SOLUTION

Install the mulch either level with the ground at a depth of no more than 2-4 inches.

For this particular client with the hedge, i would merely suggest this. "your mulch around your gardens has been installed improperly and may damage or hinder the growth of your plants and in the long run cause you to spend more money replacing the trees/shrubs. trees live in the forest for centuries(100-900 yeas) yet improperly installed mulch can greatly shorten that to 1-5 years lifespan." Explain that you can fix the problem. I would charge your normal labor rate. You may discover they have extra mulch left over when your done.

Just from the pictures you took i could make another $80-120 bucks to fix the mulching issue. If you need more mulch, you have to find out the type of mulch/color you have and price that out accordingly. I price is normally 1.5-2 times the cost of the mulch. This compensates for me buying it and delivering it to your property. But if you have a wheelbarrow, shovel and a mulch rake. you can do this job.

Good luck if you decide to talk to the client about the mulch.

Paul

LOL! Yeah, I did it - that's my house.

That isn't a "mulch volcano" though. The mulch is only about 2" deep.
I swear I read to plant those Japanese maples on a "mound" for drainage, so that's what you are seeing. I also kept the mulch from laying up against the trunk.

Thanks for the links though. I'm sure I'll find something useful in them.

Did you find that only applied to japanese maples or other trees as well?
