Exclamation What to do when you get sick?

Hey guys, i've run into an issue that I have been fearing. Monday morning I started not feeling to well. I stayed home from my full time job yesterday, and tried to work today, just to go home with a temp of 103. I have an estimate to do tomorrow, and quite a few yards to cut later in the week. How do you veterans handle this situation? I am going to the doctor tomorrow, and I am prone to pneumonia, and I fear that is what I have! What do I do? I have taken my brother - n - law to all my jobs a couple times, so he could fill in, in case of an emergency, but I am afraid he won't complete the job to the customers satisfaction, nor mine. Little help here....

Lawn care business tipsLawn Care Business Book
Go to the pharmacy, grab some antibiotics!!!! <-MUST DO
antibiotics will stop your sickness from getting worse.

//

Eat whatever will make you poop.
Drink, drink, and drink a lot of water.

The idea is to give your system a consistent cleansing.
Your body will flush/remove the sick out of you bit by bit.

//

Exercise. Increasing your bodies temperature makes it very uncomfortable for germs/bacteria to stay inside of your system.

If exercise is too difficult to manage at this point, take a hot bath.
Soak in it. Your sinuses will thank you. A hot bath will also remove pressure you may be feeling, weather it's in your head, chest, etc.
(even sitting in a steamy room with hot water running will help you breath, it's recommended for asthmatics and those with breathing disabilities)

As your body adapts to the temperature of the water, make it hotter.
(don't burn yourself!)

_________________________

Eat a lot of vegetables as they are mostly water and don't stay in your system long.

If you wanna go all out like I do... Buy a jar of OLIVES... eat them all...
(have a roll of toilet paper ready).

Also, avoid dark rooms. Sickness is one part psychology - bright rooms and simple distractions can aid you dramatically.

I hope this helps!

Dr. Scott

Yeah it is tough when this happens..

but think of it as a great lesson really.

Though this won't help you out right now but it really shows why its important to set up systems. I learnt the hard way when I broke my leg a couple of years ago and couldn't work for weeks.

To any one who is interested I recon the best book to read is instant systems by brad sugars.

Can you find another company in your area that performs at the level you do where you could help each other out in such times?

The problem with finding another company to help out, is soliciting.

Your customers = your daughters.
Other companies = unemployed boys with no future.
- keep them away from each other at all costs!

Risks;
Quote:
Your customers might be the ones who go outside and say,
"what do you charge?"

or

The company who takes your place for the duration you are sick may make an attempt to steal your client.

There is no win situation when it comes to receiving help from other companies.

You could hire a company who in lack of a better term, "sucks" -
though you would be the one the customer would blame regardless.

Solution;
Find someone who can cut grass properly, without any ambition to steal your business; friends, family, etc. It's very difficult to manage in such a short time. By the time they understand how you want your lawns cut, you'll be feeling better.... hahaha

I have worked with a few companies, we helped each other out like so;
Quote:
One company was short a man, and needed me to get certain lawns done.
The Trade;
Borrowing one of their mowers, mine happened to break at the time.

Quote:
Last year I was combining my company with another in order to do all of our lawns together.
It was fun, but the fact he presented disgusting quality, we split up and did our own work from then on.

His customers received superior quality, while mine received crap. It wasn't fair for me to make his lawns look as good as mine, when he couldn't do the same for me.

I have a fear of having another company take the reigns so to speak. I'm paranoid like that. I have been having my bro-n-law help me, he does good, real good, with guidance. I am not comfortable with him handling it by himself yet. I wanted to train him up, for situations like this.

I went to the doctor today, I have walking pneumonia. She told me to not exert myself too much, and said to completely avoid any sort of pollen for at least the next 3 to 4 days.

I have work to do tomorrow, so I figure she said I had walking, not riding pneumonia, throw in a dust mask, and I'll be good to go. I'll have my bro do all the trimming and air sweeping.

Now, to just get out of the driveway with my truck and trailer without her seeing me. I picked up two more yards today after my doctors appointment, she was not happy that I was out there working. And let me tell you, walking those properties to give estimates really winded me.

I hope you recover quick. I would say if all else fails have your brother in law do the lawns and call the customers and say I am sick with X and I am unable to personally care for your poperty one of my employees who works with me will service your location. I appologize ahead of time if it is not up to the normal standards I should be back on ____ If you have any significant issues with this week's service please let me know asap so I can address it quickly. Being upfront and honest with them will go a long way. Don't over do it take the three to four days off because if you don't it could end up in 3-4 weeks in the hospital or worse! Better safe then sorry with your health. Most people I think will understand esp. if it doesn't happen often. Everyone gets sick.

that has to be one of the hardest situations to arrive at without a helper. I got help about a month after i started my own business, so i suggest you get help "train" someone at least 8hrs a week it wont be all that great for the guy being "trained" but it will for you for when ever u need it like this situation here.

wish you best of luck and take care follow docs recommendations!
