Ultimately, how long do you feel customers should be allowed to go before you stop and talk with them? How long until you stop work altogether?

I've experienced the same problem with customers paying late or not even paying at all. I invoice all my customers and I give services for a month and no more if I do not receive payment. I'd rather deal with a month's service rather than being owed for two or three months service. I have taken two of my clients to small claim courts and received payment from one, but not the other. However, their failure to pay will go on their credit report until they make payment. Before I take it to small claims court I give them ample time to rectify the matter by sending a late payment letter, leaving voice mail messages and a personal visit. If they have not paid me by the third month, I then file my claim because it's apparent they have no intention of paying. I do have more clients that pay on time than those that do not. I definitely feel that a personal visit to the client is the right thing to do because things do happen, but you as a LCO have expenses and must afford yourself the opportunity to be paid.
