Default Lawns by the sq. ft.

Does anyone charge lawn care by the sq. ft. if so whats the national average per sq.ft charge?

Lawn care business tipsLawn Care Business Book
Early on, it is a lot easier to charge by the amount of time you spend. We have seen on here that the national average is around $45 an hour. So if you take that and can estimate how much time it will take to mow a property, you can come up with a price.

As you grow, you get a better feel for estimating and can go for a sq ft bid approach.

If you'd like to get into that now, measure the properties you currently service and divide how much you charge them by the sq ft.

Does that help?

How else would you charge for a lawn? If you go by the hour every week the lawn will cost a different amount.

The rate is the same here, Steve has an excellent calculator here on the forum to determine time based on the sq/ft of the yard and the size of your mower that you chould have on your computer to provide estimates, when I started last spring I used it for a few months, now I don't even measure for mowing, spraying etc. I can take a quick look and know how long it will take, my costs etc. give them a quote and off we go.

I found it easier to do a per sq ft. and then double check with the calculators steve has. I have a drop charge and then per sq ft after that. Larger the yard the cheaper the drop charge. I seem pretty close to the calculators most of the time.

I more or less want to check sq ft just to calculate if im screwing myself on some of my lawns been doing it for 7 years and just been looking at lawn and qouting a price some of my lawns I feel im might not be charging enough. I have played around with the calculators over the weekend and they work I'm anxious to put real figures of some of my lawns in there see what they come back with

For those reading this post the lawn care estimation calculators are here.

Ok now, what you could do next is this, get a measurement of the properties and then find what you are charging per sqft. Compare all your properties and see if they are close in price.

Also, if you want to compare it to an average, find out how much you are charging ultimately per hour and compare that to the $45 an hour average.

Let me know what you come up with.

You may be shocked to find some properties are priced properly but some are underbid.
