Default Got Inspected today

Got Inspected today

My office was “Inspected” today for Posting of Federal Ans South Carolina labor law Notices!
There are 5 SC Posts and 12 Federal Posts that are supposed to displayed where all employees can easily see.

SC
Workers’ Compensation
Unemployment Insurance
OSHA Safety and Health
Employment Discrimination
Payment of wages -Child Labor & Right-To-Know

Federal
Equal Opportunity
IRS Notice 797
Federal Minimum Wage
USERRA Rights and Benefits
Family and Medical Leave Act
IRS Notice of withholding/Earned Income Credit
Employee Polygraph Protection Notice
USCIS Discrimination Notice
Employee Right to Know Notice
Emergency Phone Numbers
Payday Notice
MSDS Station Material Safety Data Sheet

I had 5 out of date posters
None were posted on the walls of my office.

Fined $250.00 and given 30 days to get updated posters and all posted on my walls.

Have to go to court Friday at the County Courthouse.

Oh Yea, the posters are $9.95 each and you have to purchase the package of all 17 posters (from the county). Whatever it takes to make business easier!!!!

Holy Crap! Sorry about that! Did you even know about this?

Steve,

What is their policy for this with a home office? Do they expect you to put it on your walls of your home office? What if no employees come in there?

What if the only place where the employees can easily see things is in the truck?

What organization inspects for this?

I think that the reason I was "Inspected" is because I had received about 3 motices in the mail of the new posters and didn't send them the money for the posters. I wasn't checked off of the database. In other words, it is a money making endevor by the county. I have a service that does my payrole, book keeping, taxes etc. I talked to he tonight and she said that if I picked up the posters before I go to court, the fine will be dropped. I was he third client this month that was "Inspected".

Including myself, I have only 4 employees. Payrole is direct deposited including bonus. I have the MSDS's on every vehicle. I have no employees under 18. I carry insurance (something none of my compitition does). My taxes, workmans comp, and disability insurances are always paid when due for both State and Federal.

The "Inspectors" are from Darlington County Code Enforcement.

Personally I find this ridiculous, I have 19 employees some full time, some part, since I started in April of last year the only employee to ever see the home office is my son and I doubt, because they have no reason to be here, that the rest ever will.

I could see including a copy in a package with a Welcome to .......(Company Name) have them acknowledge receipt by signing something.

Default Court

As advised, I went and purchased the posters from the county (I only needed the 4 that were outdated but had to get the entire 17 poster package). $169.15 ($9.95 each).

When I went to court, I pleaded "No Contest" Judge dropped the Fine and just charged me for court fees - a total of $35.00.

I'll pay attention to future mailings about updated posters and get them as needed.

One reason would be the size of the posters but I feel the main reason is Income for the County.

We have a state income tax, a sales tax (from 1% to 8% depending on what you buy) and property taxes.

Property taxes cover housing, land, structures, vehicles and boats but, citizens over 62 years of age pay no property taxes. With the economy as it is, loss of this income has to be found elsewhere. Hense, fees where they can find them.
