New to the game...soakin up new info

Love the site. Getting lots of good info. I was laid off from my job of 10yrs and finaly got the opportunity to do what I have always wanted. I started this business with my brother in law who was working for the city doing tree trimming and removal. My previous job, I learned allot about lawn care and landscaping. Now we just need to get the consistent customer flow. We are doing fine now, getting allot of tree jobs which definitely pay more than lawn jobs but we really want the steady lawn work. Right now I am using a regular ol' John Derre Sabre 42" 16hp lawn tractor because we cannot afford the cost of a good xmark, grasshopper ect. Word of mouth advertising is working good right now but we would love to get started doing some commercial props as well. We have lots of ambition and drive, just have to work hard and get new customers so we can get that new mower...Any advice would be appreciated!!!

Lawn care business tips

Welcome to our forum! First off I would ask, why bother with the commercial clients at the moment? Why not focus on building up residential customers. I would think it would be a lot easier. Also, have you gotten signs for your truck and trailer yet?

We have a few res customers but i would figure that commercial would be more steady?? We have cards and yard signs but not truck mags yet. Lookin for a good price on those. I would need 4 signs and the cheapest I have found so far is arroung $200.

If you look around at Vista print once in a while you can get some good deals.

I buy business cards that change every couple months to hand out, due to seasonal promotions. I start pushing power washing now. We just picked up 10 t-shirts 5k business cards. 2 large door mags, hats banners decals and a bunch of free stuff, including free priority shipping. All for like $140. Retail was $400. 10 t-shirts alone could cost you $100. Get on the emailing list for promotions.
