The best part about gaining new & better clients, is gaining the ability to drop the crappy ones!

When you have enough decent clients, your attitude changes & you stop taking crap from the cheap & naggy ones.


I don't like having clients who walk up to me head high, thinking I'm just there to cut grass - that my job is simple. That any request they have should be simple for me to perform on the spot.

Only after I mowed a large lawn, THAT is when a customer decided to come out & say, "I would like you to cut it shorter, I don't like it like this"

My response, "I'm done your property for the day, & I'm not interested in staying any longer & destroying your lawn by cutting it any shorter, it's going to look horrible. Goodbye!"

I'm really losing my concern with my low paying clients who just seem to always have a reason to nag.

I think I would have been better off dropping all of my crappy clients this year, it's just a hassle.

The pros: Money, minor profit.

The cons: Nagging, constant flow of stupid requests for the same $, minor profit.

Cheap customers seem to bother me the most, I suppose they do not have a lot of money & try to make EVERY dollar count. Though many of them act as if $1.00 is worth $10.00 in the lawn maintenance world - It's NOT!

I don't seem to care for their requests. What they pay me isn't worth a discussion about altering my schedule to fit their liking, or doing the odd task every time I'm there to just maintain their lawn (moving furniture, junk, toys) it's just not worth it.

I hate seeing them, & hate listening to their crap. "Can you trim in the garden, there is a few weeds sticking out & it looks horrible?"

If you didn't hire & pay me for garden maintenance, go screw yourself & your request. I'm here for what you paid for.

Sure you can do the odd task for a sweet old lady, or someone who is generally kind to you. But for someone to nag constantly, avoid pay dates, & then make a request? FORGET IT!!!! Not gonna happen.

For every bad customer, they can expect to receive their money back for the work I did not complete & a wave goodbye.

There are tons of decent clients, no need to even BOTHER with the crappy ones.

What is your opinion?

I Agree the simplest way to deal with them is to up the price. If they keep paying then make it worth the trouble other way they will tell you no thinks and there are no hard feeling on eather party just walk away.Two things in the lawn care that make you lose money is the complainer and having accounts too far out the area you normally work in. So Fire the bad one and replace those accounts will help you grow in the long run.Not every one can be made happy so if you can get paid enough to deal with them then fine keep them other wise i say fire them.
