Default Hello from southeast Michigan

Hello all, My name is brad and my company name is Brads Professional Grounds Maintenance. I do mainly grass mowing, clean-ups and aeration. I want to get into the fertilization and putting down herbicides and pesticides in the future. I have been doing this since 2003.

Lawn care business tipsLawn Care Business Book
Hi Brad,

Welcome to our forum!

What kinds of lessons do you feel have stood out since you have been in business for quite some time?

When looking back, were there many things you learned that you wish you knew early on?

Could you share with us and especially the newer business owners here, maybe 5 top lessons you learned?

I have had many trial and errors over the past I will say 8 years. A few things I have learned is go 110% over the top for your customers expecially with the way the economy is. If you do this, good things will come to you and your business. When getting started making money is one thing but building up a good clientele is what every business owner is looking for. I like most lawncare business in michigan and struggling with keeping customers. This was the first year for me that I lost customers to either underbidding or unfortunatly on my part I lost some customers because last season I had my weed whip and stick edger stolen from my enclosed trailer. I tryed my best using my back up equipment but I can tell everyone the job wasn't as good as I wanted it to be so I lost. I should have put some new equipment on my charge card but its tough when money is tight. A couple more things striping and cross striping makes you look more professional and Keeping everyones lawn edged. No one likes seeing grass overgrowing the sidewalks and driveways including myself! hah.

When you think about what a makes a good clientele, what kinds of things stand out to you?

A lot of new business owners may have no idea there is a difference between good and bad customers.
