Default What a day

This is going to sound like something like Breeze would post.......

Put a 14,000 reg weight trailer on the truck this morning with a 3,800 pound tractor/loader on the back and headed out, we have a division here called highway enforcement, basically they stop commercial vehicles and check them head to toe, major PITA as it can take 60 to 90 min, with all due respect they are want to be cops with a little authority and we all complain about them. I have been stopped in the past as they wanted to check my straps to see if they were certified. Anyhow sure enough I get pulled over, he said he wants to weigh the trailer, I said you have to be kidding, here is the registration, I can carry 14,000 pounds do you honestly think that little tractor weighs 7 tons or do you think the bottom of the trailer is lined with gold? I don't generally cop an attitude but there is a very large group of us that are sick and tired of the BS.

Anyhow that gets behind me and I drop the tractor off at a site, sod company calls, buddy was pulled over with our order and the truck can't be moved as they found a hole in his netting and they have to replace it, ETA 3 hours, great not I have three guys standing around on a job site.

I head to a crew that is doing a driveway, all of of a sudden a text, gravel is not here, called our supplier, their truck broke an axle on route, sending a replacement but have a backlog, ETA 2 hours.

Our mowing crews are behind so I head home to pick up a new X749, put the deck on and head to a site, this unit has 36 hours, mow for a while then go around a tree, tires turn the sod up like no tomorrow, take it to a gravel area but it won't do it again, thought it was a freak thing, client is also a friend, just had his driveway done with interlocking brick, I drive up to have lunch with him, turn in his driveway and major black marks, thank god he is a friend but I was very upset, have to take the unit back to Deere but don't have time until Monday. I did call the dealer who hasn't sold many fo these at any of their 8 stores, never an issue, they call H.O. no issues reported.

Left to help the sod crew, man that sky looks black in the area where they are, I have lived here 20+ years and seen hail maybe once, I drive in and the skies open up, it hailed so hard it hurt if you were outside and long enough to turn the topsoil we had put down white, sent the crew home.

Man I sure hope tomorrow is a lot better!

Lawn care business tips
Ya that sounds about right!

I've got a short story for you!

I painted a room today at a client/friends. When I finished (an hour ago) I told him that we should go grab a bite to eat at McDonalds.

This McDonalds is ALWAYS an adventure, there is always something wrong.

This time, cars were backed up onto the main road idling. The parking lot was a trap, no one goes in or out.

Anyway, 25 minutes pass & I only managed to get 15 feet in...

I call it quits...

My mind thought, "I have a truck... 4x4... I'm leaving"

Right over the curb & grass I went... All the way to Harvey's...

(Harvey's is another burger joint)

I think I'll bring the trailer tomorrow, see if I can squeeze into the drive through with that... Hahahaha! Highly doubt it... but, wont know unless I try!

I have a pile of stories taking trailers through drive through at Tim Horton's (Coffee place here, basically the McDonald's of Coffee, they are everywhere and their coffee amazing)

Once was with a 16 foot, they had the garbage cans lined up (3 I think) close to the speaker you order into, there was a bit of a turn and I wasn't paying attention, destroyed all three, the girls thought it was funny and told me to have a nice day and carry on.

One night we were working late, it had been a desperate hot day and their Ice Capp's are to die for, had the 16 foot on and loaded with a ZTR, Tractor, Push and I forget what else but it was heavy, anyhow I had never been to this Tim's and as us Canadian's know they are always packed, anyhow the speaker was on one side of the building and pickup on the other so you drove around the back, done this so many times at other Tim's, just take as wide a turn as possible, well OMG when I got to the back my heart sank, there was no room for a wide turn, a bank that was pretty steep, at least 10 cars behind us, I tried to get around but there was no way, we had to get the people behind us to all back up so I could back out, talk about a nightmare, I bet we were there an hour. I was so tempted to just drive up onto the bank to get a wide enough turn, I had a four wheel drive truck aith 6 ply lug tires so it would have done it but the damage would have been interesting.

I have since written many times suggesting they post NO TRAILERS, or something to warn us commercial guys, but now we have hit just about every Tim's in the area's we work so I know where I can't go.

Andy,

Would these cops be as picky if something else was used to haul the tractors around? Something like a flatbed tow truck?

This sounds like it would be a huge pain in the butt to have to deal with.

HURRAY FOR TIM HORTONS!!!! The best coffee on the planet!

Down with Dunkin' Donuts, can't compare! Starbucks is a joke. McDonalds taste like instant coffee but watered down hardcore.

I almost took someones head off at a McDonalds, they peeked out & I almost gottem' with the big side mirror. Hahahaha!

I think American's have to try Tim Hortons coffee, it's like no other.

Oh yes buddy, it doesn't matter if you are using a trailer or flatbed or whatever they will and do stop you, I have been stopped four times in one week, I have never had a ticket for anything in 30 years, these guys are a major pain and all of us, especially truck drivers complain. They even stop me to ensure my decks are clean on the trailers, if they find a stone even if it's small, it's a fine.

Speaking of cops.

I was taking a nap in front of a theater in my truck before my movie started. I got there too early, so I parked & decided to take a rest. My garden weeder tagged along.

Cop pulls up beside me with no flashing lights... Alright, weird...

1 full minute passes, & the sirens go on... Interesting.

They turn the sirens off but the lights continue to flash.

Garden weeder, "why don't we have a strobe light on the truck?"

We just lied there ignoring them. A cop approached my passenger side & looked in through my window.. lmao

I think I was lucky, because I'm sure this could have got me in trouble.

I rolled down the window...

"Are you here to tell us our movie started or what?"

The cop smiled & apologized, went on his way.

My garden weeder always reminds me that I wont always get away with talking to people like that. I always prove her wronnng.

Would some kind of letter to someone help bring attention to this? Maybe even the newspaper? Would it help fix this?

I haven't tried but the delivery drivers tell me no one really cares, it's all politics and the governments twist on keeping the roads safe
