Have you ever used any referral based services or websites to help promote your company? Do you feel this service below fills a void? Is this service needed? Will contractors pay for it's use?
At your service - Somebody slips you a business card at a picnic or family gathering. But when it's time to make a referral, the card is virtually impossible to track down.
And so the attempt to connect a person with the service provider is a flop.
That scenario has provided the impetus for a relatively new online service dreamed up by Eric Laughlin, a financial adviser for Smith Barney, and his brother Steve, an insurance claims administrator for Gallagher Bassett and a Huntley resident.
The company Web site, ihaveaguy.com, has recorded about 1,700 hits as of early June.
Click on "lawn service," for example, and a virtual "card" pops up, including the name and phone number of a lawn maintenance business recommended by the person who made the referral.
Eric envisioned the day when, for example, those surfing for a lawn maintenance service will see an advertisement for a local landscaper pop up.
