Hey I’m Tyler Haroutunian I’m 14 years old and trying to start my own landscaping and Hardscaping business. I thought of a name TMack industries landscaping but I just don’t know how to get business. I need to make flyers and a logo but I do not have money for that. How can I get business? Will any one hire a 14 year old to do their Hardscaping and landscaping? What path should I get on to start my landscaping business?

Lawn care business tips

I need to make flyers
Design one on your computer, have your friends print them out for you.
and a logo
Maybe you can find one here, http://www.gopherforum.com/uploaded-...o-designer.php
but I do not have money for that.
The above is easy to obtain, gotta think of the people in your life (friends/family)
How can I get business?
Once your flyers have been printed, go to the dollar store & pick up some nice envelopes. Fold your flyers 3-way & stick them in the evenlopes.
Hand out the flyers door to door around your area. Download "GOOGLE EARTH", it's free. You can create a good flyer delivery route this way.
Will any one hire a 14 year old to do their Hardscaping
0.00001% chance
and landscaping?
Yes!
What path should I get on to start my landscaping business?
Hand out your flyers. Always take pictures of your work, & put them on 2011's flyers.
People will be wanting to see what you are capable of.
Can someone post a link to our discussion about start up costs?
Maybe you'll find it easier to invest working for somebody instead of yourself for now. The best time to start would be when you have your license/vehicle.
Though it depends what you want to do. Do you want to live off this business? Or is this something you want to try just to have a bit of money throughout the summer?
Keep postin' buddy! I am very interested in helping you out.

Welcome!!
We started a couple of years ago, your going a little to fast, first of all you need to know how to do the work(different areas) then get licensed,a drivers license too! experience, A lot of it, cash flow, equip.tools, gas, insurance, then things break, etc..WOW At 14 you have great goals ,if you were in Minnesota I'd bring you in! I just started myself with a partner and wow it's a lot of fun but it's A LOT of work too.Like the other person said work for someone for a bit ,after school the give it all you got!! A truck, lawn mower,a little gas money,a couple rakes and your good to go for a minute as customers grow, then you start getting equip,etc.... Good Luck Sue from TWIN-CITIES GREEN TEAM LLC

I'm sure they'd be interested!
Just don't go in explaining that you have plans on starting your own company. You can play espionage for a bit, & kinda figure out how they maintain their business.
Working under another company is basically training for what you want to do in the future!
I don't actually know the legal age for employment, but common, this is lawn service. Make some phone calls!

Welcome Tyler, it's nice to have you here.
I think early on it is important to keep it simple. Talk to your neighbors and ask them if you can mow their lawns. Everyone is always looking for a local teenager to be able to call and help out with this or that.
Get your name out there. Let them know you are interested and you will get customers!

woah your going all out there thinking about trucks and what not..
honestly in my opinion
id reccomend doing lawn care first with some minor landscaping jobs..
atleast until you can get a car..
you can save up from the lawn care to build yourself up to landscape and hardscape.. that way youll have a feel for billing, clients, estimating, and the work most of all.
thats what i would do at least..

hey guys, is landscaping and hardscaping a good fun job.
Landscaping is fun, you are in - & you are out.
Hardscaping can be time consuming. Even after you give your quote, you could bump into a few problems along the way that you are not prepared for. You really have to know what you are doing. If you charge a customer per hour, & they see you standing around puzzled - they can break your company name. Actually, no matter how you charge, you could end up in some nasty trouble.
Also what kind of lawn mowers are the best?
I suggest getting a commercial grade self propelled lawn mower. Check around town for dealers & see what equipment they are familiar with fixing. You don’t want to buy a cheap box store mower that doesn’t come with a warranty, or one that you dealer is unfamiliar with repairing.
I suggest Toro mowers.
What size truck is good and would you get a like F550 dump truck or a pick up truck first.
No matter what, your truck needs to support a hitch & should have 4WD. The size of the bed doesn’t really matter, as long as it’s no less than 6ft.
I suggest checking out it’s towing capacity as well, you want to make this truck able to haul future owned equipment.
Also what other equipment will be neccesery. (bobcat)
It all depends what you want to get into. You are able to rent a lot but not all tools for hardscaping, but this doesn’t mean it’s cheap.

I started cutting lawn when I was 10. have a clients for 10-12 year. In that time I've built decks, done roofs, patios, small retaining walls. Lots now what I think is a great introduction to hardscaping is to relay a patio that has shifted sank or what ever the problem may be you are following someone elses work, now I'm not saying its going to be the right way to get into this you will learn a lot as you go but a small patio or even relevel a part of an interlock drive way it will give you the basics of back braking work. The best tool you have for any of these jobs is right here you on it right now, so ask questions and learn the right was to do things. You will also find if you already cut the persons grass they are more inclined to have you do other jobs.
