Here is another business idea. What if you could get your hands on some land, would you like to turn it into a sod farm? Check out this article and see how more farms are being turned into sod farms.

Farmers abandoning traditional crops in favor of sod - The same housing boom that is gobbling up farms across the country is creating a new opportunity for those who continue to farm. An increasing numbers of farmers are cashing in on increased demand for lawns by developers and landscaping companies by growing turfgrass sod.

Turfgrass sod is a blanket of grass held together by the root system. It can be placed on bare soil to create a lawn.

"There is demand for the product," said Glen Jones, owner of Greenland Sod Farm, who recently purchased an 800-acre sod farm in Bethel, Del.

A study of sod farmers by Auburn University in Alabama found that in 2001, after five years of operation, a 550-acre farm spent $4,497 to grow an acre of sod and made a profit of $1,729 an acre.
