iDigo - iPhone App for Lawn Care Professionals
|
|
Hi, everyone!
My name is Larry Upton. I founded a small technology company, edioma, here in Austin, TX a number of years ago. We develop and publish language assistance tools for mobile phone users, in particular English speakers who wish to communicate better in Spanish and vice-versa. Our first iPhone based product, iDigo, shipped last week and is designed to facilitate better communication between English-speaking homeowners and Spanish-speaking staff (e.g., housecleaners, yard-workers, handymen, etc.).
Steve was gracious enough to suggest I jump on the forum to chat about iDigo, and to solicit feedback from any forum readers who may wish to download the app. iDigo is available on the App Store for $1.99 and contains some 300 phrases and terms. Mind you, this is version 1.0, so we'd welcome any suggestions on potential phrases/terms, difficult communication subjects, etc.
I've attached a couple of screenshots for your review. For more information on edioma, please email us at info@edioma.com.
Again, any and all suggestions welcome!!
Best,
Larry

Lawn care business tips
|
Hi Larry,
Welcome to our forum.
Can you give us a little insight into how a lawn care business owner would use this? Like for instance what kinds of phrases would your software have that could be used in this field?
Also, if you would like, tell us a little about how you came up with this idea!

Hey, thats pretty neat. I could see a lot of use for this. Though not for me since there isnt an abundance of Mexicans where I live. Still a good idea.

Nice, my girlfriend is Spanish, I thought she was Mexican but she's Peruvian, no idea what that is, but understanding her & her moms side of the family is impossible. This could help me out with her family, they usually ask for service & what not, but I usually say, "For the last time I can't understand you, bye" maybe this could change something?
I called my girlfriends house once & her aunt that was visiting randomly answered the phone. I was stuck saying, "hasta la vista" lol
Though my girlfriend has taught me several sayings in Spanish, I'm becoming more ignorant, & wouldn't mind a product to help out.

So you can't communicate with your girlfriend? That's hysterical breeze!
Hey luaustx, Breeze needs to know if the phrase "honey, are you feeling kinky tonight?" is in that phone app? Or maby just "I need a little uhhh, uhhh" or possibly more important than that.....
"What-are-you-cooking-me-for-dinner?" haha!
Sorry, just a funny mental picture of a bizarre relationship problem.... I get carried away.

See Sprinklerman,
We all enjoy this site to laugh at and with each other, make true friends and always post a question that we don’t understand or need help with. Everyone can contribute to making this a Great site likes it is becoming.
Mr. Upton,
I enjoy your app. and the phase’s are great but………….. You know there is a site called I translate through the Apple store and you can download it for free. I one thing that is different from yours is that you can ask your question for instance in English and have it translated into 40 different languages or vise versa. Type in a foreign language and ask for it in English and there you go. This site has helped me out a couple of time when I needed to speak to some workers in Spanish.
Breeze this can help you with your French to better understand your clients when they are speaking to you in French. This will help you greatly in understanding your Future in-laws when they are yakking at you and you stand there saying por que? LOL
John

Re: iDigo (iPhone App)
Thanks for the great feedback, all.
John, we're quite familiar with iTranslate, iSpeak, etc. Although highly useful when it comes to one-to-many languages, most of these "translator" products are based on the same Google/Babblefish engine, are at best 70% accurate, and assume you have a live data connection. Our research indicated that in a professional setting, most users would rather be assured what they're saying is 100% accurate, even if limited in scope.
That being said, we're planning to increase the number of English-to-Spanish phrases in version 2.0 of iDigo Home, will soon introduce an "interactive" translator based on a static dictionary of lawn care terms, and will rapidly port to other major verticals. Please, don't hesitate to suggest any other changes you think might prove useful in such a language assistance product.
Thanks in advance for kind consideration, everyone.
