i have noticed a alot of lawn care companys around town using big mowers on small yards and small mowers on small yards. I get small yards done alot faster with the exmark than the walker. But people tell me using the walker will leave a much nicer and finer cut than any other, but takes longer. But i know time is money. So i figured using the exmark on a small yard, u would be making a good profit. Using a walker on a small yard u are burning your profit. Lets see for a $45 yard
exmark (60 in)(23hp)- small yard= 30 minutes
walker (42in)(20hp)bagged- small yard= 45 minutes
whats the best option

Well, I guess for me to answer that, I think I would have to take into account who you are targeting and what your marketing angle is.
Are you trying to go for discounted mow, blow, and go.
Or
Would you be targeting customers who demanded higher quality and would be willing to pay for it?

i want to have the good clean look the exmark and walker can do it, but on some yards the exmark leaves grass clippings in the yard and makes the yard look ugly<** unprofessional look. Also when i mow i like the yard clean. If i was a customer of a lawn care company for the money i would pay, i want it sparkling, lol
also i would think people driving by seeing u use a bagger mower, they would be like, o ok nice clean yard, lets get the name and number

If you have alot of customers. Then i'll say use the exmark on small lawns but if you only have about 20 or less week i'll take my time and give them a clean cut lawn.
Thats the way i look at it. Once you get busy and start picking up tons of customers then is time to get a helper and still try to give all customers a great clean cut lawn. I think this will keep em coming and more money you will make. Cause more customers you will pick up.
Also i see alot of Lawn care company mowing way to low. I meassured a lawn the other day and it was cut at 1 1/2, when it's suppost to be around 2 3/4 or 3 inches.

i have about 50 yards to maintain, i am only in my first year, but i do lots of advertising, i do have a helper at times when ever i want help. I can do them all by myself mon-sat. its good money by myself, but i get them done alot faster with help. i enjoy what i do.
thought about putting more vinyl lettering on my truck as for landscaping and irrigation and sub them out to learn that way

Again, it all comes down to price vs value. If you're just competing on price then by all means go with the exmark. However, if you're smart and are trying to offer more value, go with the walker. You should easily be able to more than make up for the 15 minutes you lose by using the walker.

Hello -
I have owned both machines and think that the Walker is the way to go. The versatility it offers come clean up time will also amaze you. Down sides to the walker are that you cannot cut in wet conditions, there are a lot of moving parts that get worn and is thus a more expensive machine to maintain. I had 300 accounts covered by three walkers, and at certain times of the year I would have died for the Exmark, but overall am a big Walker fan...John Brouder / Universal Landscapes
