With a nine month wait for such services, do you think this new business idea has potential? From Delphi to curbing - Chris Brown’s mother-in-law tipped him off to a way to install lawn edging and curbing cheaper than using paver stones. Once he saw no one in the Warren area was doing it, he realized he could have an edge in his own business when he leaves Delphi Packard Electric. Kelly, who is president of Brown’s Curb Appeal LLC, is using some of her $140,000 buyout – about $90,000 after taxes – to fund the purchase of the equipment that extrudes concrete into the curbing and edging used along driveways, mulch beds and other landscaping. The Browns learned of the process when Kelly’s mother, Mae Stark, saw it. Brown said he contacted the Calcutta company to have it done at his Warren home but had to wait nine months because the owner was so busy. When he found out no else in the Warren area was doing that kind of work, he realized he was on to a promising idea. ‘‘This can be done in half the time and about half the cost of installing paver stones,’’ said Brown, who also is getting the $140,000 pretax buyout to leave Delphi Packard after 13 years. Brown said he and his wife are investing $30,000 to buy the equipment and launch the business. He acknowledged the challenge facing his growing family, which will include another infant when his wife gives birth this summer.
