I think things may change after the phone call I had with Better Outdoor this morning. Keep this in mind though.

I have been considering a Better-Quick 36 mower. After looking at local dealers, all were offering a winter time buy program. So I looked on the Better website to see if they were currently offering anything. Well they are-free shipping.
I clicked on the financing button, filled out the info. Received a email back from Victor. Who by the email appears to work for Better. Well he really doesn't. I have received no other email or phone calls, since I got the orginal email from Victor. Stating that my info has been rec. & was being processsed.
So this morning I check my emails & find I have been approved for a American Express Blue card. I am like WTH, I didn't apply for no American Express. You know the card that charges the crap out of the user & is not accepted at many places.

Victor has apparently filled out a application in my name, to purchase this equipment. A $3000 sale. Which if need be I can use a credit card in my back pocket for that. I was just thinking like Wright, Scag & Exmark, Great dane all have some gimmic working right now. 0% for 12month or *3.9 for 36months. That type of thing.

So when I called Victor, he acts like that is just the way they do it. I said are you kidding? I should have been notified of what was happening & had the chance to say yes or no. That did not happen.

Now because of it, I really am having second thoughts about buying this mower. The person I spoke with at Better did understand why I was pissed off.
He did say they are in the works to offer a different financing option.

What would you folks say if this happened to you?

Lawn care business tips
I would think they should state somewhere, financing by American Express or something, I'd just deal locally where you'll not only purchase your equipment, but also get any warranty repairs done also. *I had an Exmark peice of equipment kept having the belts slip off the pulleys, so I went back to the dealer where the company I worked for bought it, they called Exmark and they said "oh yeah, we upgraded the pulley system on those models", shipped them the upgraded parts, and installed in our mower, all free of charge of course, this unit had less than 200 hours on it. *Might be worth the extra charge buying from your local dealer and service shop.

Hi Julian,

Would you like me to forward this to Gary the owner and see if he can take care of it?

Let me know

Hello, yep. I really think buying local will be my best option.
Too bad this has happened, I was ready to order one up.
It has made me step back & look further into a well taken care of used mower. I have made up my mind, that I want a hydro unit over a belt drive.

Thanks Steve, I spoke with Kim & Mike @ better. I would think they relayed this to the owner. You never know though..
It won't matter for Victor. I have a call into American Express, I spoke with thier security department yesterday. They said that what occured should not have happened. Someone is supposed to call me back this morning.
Victor acts like he reassigned my account to American Express. All he did is use the information I supplied & filled out a online app in my name.

All I can say is be very carefull about the sites which you supply such information to. As shabby as the better setup is, I would have to assume. That the site is not very secure either.

One question I would love to get answered.

If you were just starting out, would you opt to buy a walk behind or a stander.
I am a * for sure! I just think the speed of a stander style, will pay for itself in the long run. Not to mention more folks would be intrested in it when it came time to get a newer model. I will be doing the mowing, so I know the machine will be taken care of.

Ps. Steve, how do I change my lettering to be black?
