Hi Adrian,

Welcome to our forum! Can you tell us a little about what got you started in the entrepreneurial world? Also why are you looking to expand into lawn care?

Thanks!

OK here it is

I grew up in a family of business people

Mum and dad divorced, remarried and both had businesses

After my mother retired as a prison officer she opened a fish & chip shop and we did breakfast lunch & dinner (like a road side diner) ground breaking stuff in the early 1980's others only did take away in the area

My dad he and his wife owned a large belt, bags & jewellery factory (ladies fashion) in Sydney, they supplied shops all over Australia, Europe & Hong Kong before cheap imports LOL

When I left school I started a photographic studio in 1980-81 and after I met my wife in 1991 we worked it up until 1999 and then we sold the business and took 18 mths off work.

Then we bought carpet-cleaning equipment and started a carpet cleaning business from scratch; the drought has knocked us around with water restrictions so our business has really slowed down (to a stop)

6 mths ago I got sick (stress the doc said) another word for LACK OF MONEY!!! So I started looking at other ways of making money then I came across post construction clean ups in and outside new residential properties

After looking into other services I could do to make money lawn care is just another way to look after customers as well

Today (dec 20) I enrolled in our local TAFE (collage) to do a Certificate III in horticultural Landscaping (6 mths) this is our Trade certificate for landscaping.

Once I have completed my cert III, I will do a further 6mths and get my diploma in landscaping so I can apply for a licence in building & structural landscaping (a must have in Queensland)

These are full time courses so I hoping to get our lawn care business really moving in the next 12 mths by employing staff

Im seriously thinking of promoting bikini lawn care here!

Now because Im not the prettiest of blokes and I don't think I would get away with wearing a bikini my wife suggested we hire good looking staff to perform our lawn care services

So if you have any suggestions that would be fantastic it would also allow me to get our landscaping licence while still running a healthy business

Well that’s it for me to date hope I gave you a good run down of where I came from and where we would like to go in the not to distant future

But let say one thing even if you didn't grow up in the "business family" (not really that helpful either) you still have to learn a bunch of "stuff" to run a business and if you want a big business you have to learn the rules of the game

Just like any game you need to know how to play it right

I hope that by telling my story that I encouraged some one to jump in and get wet its a great game were playing here

All the best Adrian

Thank you so much for all that great insight!

Did you get a chance to see the GopherHaul episodes that talked about the Bikini Lawn Care? What got you interested in going this way?

It really would be fascinating if you experimented with this.

If you were to try it out, when would you start?
