Default Aerating in the snow

Saw some guys aerating my neighbors lawn a few minutes ago. Right now it is snowing. Not a lot on the ground maybe 1/4 in. but very wet. I am just curious if any of you have done this? My opinion it seems like it would get very muddy, messy, and can be unsafe since you are on slick ground. Anyways my opinion it seems unwise and I would of just postponed that appointment for the next day.

I do wonder if the cold weather and snow mixed with the aeration could cause problems for the lawn.

Maybe they have done this before and found it causes no problems. Or maybe this is the first time they are doing it like that.

That would have been a great picture.

I have aerated "in the snow". This was over ten years ago. We had over 30 scheduled aerations to do that day, it was a typical wet spring. Day started in the 60's but dropped around 4pm and flakes began. Granted the ground was not frozen and the snow wasn't sticking. There was no damage done to the lawns that I saw throughout the season as a result of the aeration that spring.

Did you get any complaints at the time from the customers for doing it then? Or did they not care?

No one complained. Our weather can be nuts. When people say you can have all four seasons in one day in Chicago, they really are not kidding. We didn't do a bad job, just strange weather. If there was actual snow on the ground, I would gather the ground would be too hard or frozen to do the job properly. If I ever did that, the customer would deserve to punch me in the face for being a moron. @OP~ Was the ground frozen/ snow accumulating? and how did the lawns turn out, now I'm really curious

Yea here in Colorado can be the same. The snow was sticking to the ground. I couldn't see the outcome of their work but it did seem like their machine was breaking on them. I was mostly thinking it wouldn't be safe to operate the equipment on slippery surfaces.
