Default Considering a few pressure washers, any input?

Being a landscaper, I try to do pressure washing as often as possible, but only done it occasionally in the past. I want to push pressure washing more because it's another service I can offer, and it's a high profit margin. I figured I should actually buy my own instead of borrowing or renting one. So I starting checking around.

I won't be using it every day, but I want it to work for a while at least. I want something in between commercial and residential. Maybe light duty commercial?
What rates and brands do you recommend? Honda, Generac, Ridgid, Husky?

Basically, I'm just looking for something to be able to clean decks and concrete with every now and again. Just looking for some input and experience with different brands. I'm not really looking for a 4000psi 3.5gpm machine. Just not realistic for me.

This is going to be just like mowing equipment or anything else...Everyone will have a favorite...

Here is my two cents....

I have used Karcher brand power washers for a couple seasons now and they work very well, The last I bought through CPO Outlets online and had it in 3 days...Honda Engine !!

Everyone has a favorite, and there's usually a reason behind it. And the reason usually isn't something like "I like it because it's red, my favorite color".

People have favorites because of longevity, price, ease of use, performance. And that's exactly what I'm looking to hear about on this thread.

"I like Generac pressure washers because they are quieter than others" etc.

Ok here is what you need to look at....

GPM or Gallons Per Minute

All the other crap is worthless if you do not have the flow to move the water.

First off, you want a minimum of 4 gallons per minute and preferably 5-8. If all you are doing is residential then 4 is just fine.

After that it more of a personal preference for brands and engines. The parts are so interchangable that most systems use 1/2 the same parts of the other.

If you are going to do commercial cleaning, you want to get a trailer or truck set up. Like you find at http://powerwashstore.com and heck go ahead and register to win the FREE skid.

Paul and Bill run that site and they are good people. They will get you what you need. They can also help with cleaning questions.

Now as far as the cleaning, the only thing I ever needed the pressure washer for was cleaning concrete. Everything else required a cleaning solution and that was applied with a $60 12 volt pump.

I have to ask where do you get your information about engines? I rarely see any burnt intake valves on Honda engines....

GPM is all that really matters here. You wont find a non commercial pump that pushes more then 3GPM.

People like Cat pumps, I had good luck with AR, Comet, I dont think it really matters there all good and come with 3-5 yr warranties.

Engines dont matter much never had a issue with Honda or Subaru. Almost bought a yammaha.

If your going to pressure wash just like mowing your losing money showing up with a non commercial machine.

I use a 12v pump for roofs only. I could use it for pressure washing but then I would have to bring my own tank and trailer thats a pita. It would work though. I cleaned a guys house with chemicals and a garden hose.

I think the style of pump does matter a triplex pump will last a lot longer then a axial cam pump.

I disagree with you a little here you just do not see as much of the cheep junk in the commercial pumps as of yet. But I still think you need a good parts supply for a commercial piece of equipment to insure you can keep it running. And I think the yammaha engines are the same as the subaru.
Is there a cam axial pump that can even put out 3-4 gpms? I was under the assumption all the major pumps are triplex. Which is why I say theres not much difference in them.

If you buy a 3.5-4 gpm pump your going to get a commercial grade triplex pump.
