Default Trailer Ramp Gate

I cant seem to find anyplace that sells them so I'm thinking of making one.

It would be 4x6. It looks easy just angle iron, expanded metal, and some heavy hinges or 1" steel rod.

Anyone ever try to make a ramp gate?

If you make it yourself, make sure it is long enough so the slope isn't too steep otherwise you may run into this problem.

Lawn mower gets caught on landscape trailer ramp.

I used 1 - 1/4 square tube to make mine, did not use heavy enough expanded sheet metal though, my hinges are 1/2 pipe (inside diameter) with 1/2 rod. Weld one pipe to the gate, about 1/3 of the way in from each side. Then hold the gate to the trailer (a good hlper is great), and weld a pipe to the trailer, 1/8 inch spaced from the pipe on the gate. cut and fit the rod to fit through the pipes. weld one end of the rod to the pipe and viola hinges that wont break. makes sure that when you put the pipes on the gate and trailer that the darn thing will open and close. (have seen a great idea get torn apart because they wouldn't)

Oh by the way the angle for the ramp should be about 10 to 15 degrees so you can get on and off without hanging upThat would be about 4 and 1/4 inches long for each inch rise (from ground to trailer bed) Ie 16 inches of rise would need about 70 inches of ramp lengthor about 5 and 1/2 to 6 feet

What gauge expanded metal? I was thinking 13 gauge would work.

Did you use 1-1/4 or 1 1/4?

I was thinking angle iron would be lighter and wouldnt bend as easy. I was going to go with angle for the frame with square tube in the middle.

I do have 3 hinge like parts that the old ramp mounted through. I thought of the same thing though with tube on the top of the gate and the round through it.

1-1/4 square tube, but depending on the weight of the machine you may want to get 1-1/2 quare tube

M trailer came with a ramp gate and I love it, I use to use 2X4's before I got this trailer last year, the only problem I see with the one pictured are the rounded corners, I load mine down pretty good at times and with the rounded corners it looks like it could be a pain to pull things on it side by side.

I finally built this bad boy. I was going to do 5x6 but didnt feel like cutting that much. So I went with 6x6. That left me 2 ft short of expanded metal.

I found out my welder sucks. I had to bring it to my buddys shop to get the welds redone.
