Lawn care business tips
You mean a business page???

Theres 2 types.

You can make a business page or you can advertise. I suggest not advertising with them...its pretty much the same as google adwords. You won't get much doing it.

A business page is free.

Free and useless, if you ask me. There are much better ways to advartise. I have a facebook for the company, im not too active on it but I think that even if I was it wouldnt help much.

google ad words is good and worth while but i agree the facebook is useless as far as advertising goes.

The thing I wonder is, you see ads all the time from businesses that say, 'like us on facebook.' How often do you like another business? If you do this often then maybe others do as well. But if you don't do it, what is the chance of others?

How effective is facebook in promoting a business?

Maybe it just comes down to how much time you spend on it, as it is a social site?

i did it more as a accumulative effect of everything i have going on with the web site and social media to keep my SEO ranked high.

i never once for a moment that facebook was gonna do anything else other then that for me and my business.
it just boils down to one more thing on the world wide web related to your business name.

i personally after doing it awhile on twitter and facebook for the life of me can not see the attraction.
i think it is stupid and *** and a jumbled mass of confusion.

i have grown accustomed to the typical web format such as this place or any others that i frequent where as you are a member and if you got something to say or see something you want to respond to you just have at it with no real limits other then not curing like a sailor.

but i will say all of the social media i have used in conjunction with one another has made my internet presence to the point where i am on the top of the front page on most searches with my keywords in my local area and two months ago i was non existent.
i had a poorly made web site for going on my 3rd year and never got squat from it and now that i have done all that i did the last couple months everything has exploded.

the real test will be in how many phone calls does it translate to come the busy season but time will tell and anytime you can get your name out there and it be seen is a good thing and there is no better place to start then the internet because most of it is free.

i also got the google adwords campaign going and everywhere i go now i see my name on the screen. even here i do but i am sure no one else see's it because i have it targeted to my local area.

i am hopeful that this will help because after i got things going and had a good foothold with what i did in getting a stronger internet presence we had that big snow 2 or 3 weeks ago and i got more phone calls then i ever had in 23 years of business.
and by more i mean about a 100 more calls then normal.

i forgot to add that having a large following on twitter or facebook is comparable
to owning a lot of property in the game of monopoly.

How effective is facebook in promoting a business?

How often do you like another business?: I "Like" other (non Lawn Care of course!) businesses ALL the time. What comes around goes around...

How effective is facebook in promoting a business?: Very effective as I have over 3000 fb friends. The first thing I did was invite EVERYONE of my fb friends to "Like" my page: https://www.facebook.com/CutnUpLawnServiceLLC even the ones not in my area! It's all about making connections!

Maybe it just comes down to how much time you spend on it, as it is a social site?: Exactly. When I'm too busy to post / promote my wife takes it up, it is afterall a family business

I post on this site daily, sometimes several times daily. I post then "share it to my personal fb and my wife's and a few other friends. I have had several comments and opportunities for new start ups this season. I also have a twitter account for Cut'n Up that we post on too. I believe the best way to advertise is word of mouth, but since social networking has become almost a necessary way of life for most its an awesome tool - and the price is right.

How many new customers have you landed from 3000 friends on facebook?

As I was responding, I noticed LawnBoy0311 hit my question on the head.

What kind of % of new callers or customers tell you they heard of you initially from facebook?

This would be something very interesting to know to see the potential effectiveness of it.
