advice on pricing mulch jobs

So what is a good estimate delivered and spread? Cost $28/yd.=$80/yd.?...$100/yd.?

Typically whatill do is measure it out accurately and i can but a yard of mulch for $27 so ill sell it to the customer at $35 a yard and spread for another $35 so i charge $70 per yard of mulch for product and installation

I charge $70 per yard for mulch installed, than add the delivery charge from the mulch company about $60- $120.

A yard a hour is about right depending location of mulch placement.

I do this by myself and don't want any employees so may trade services with a buddy that has insurance and also does landscaping.

I stick to my prices and if they think i'm high they can always call someone else.

My priceing theory, just because I'm a one man show that does not mean I should charge less that the large establisted landscape companys.
Started last year and have about 28 customers that take one or two services want to add 15 more this year.
Every customer you get will in general take more services as time goes by.
Still working full time march-november.

So if you delivery the mulch yourself, is that included in the $70/yd? Or do you add a delivery fee on top of that?

I will add a dollar per mile delievery fee from my supplier to the job

If it's a small load 1-2 yards I charge $ 15.00
If it's 2 or more I have it deliver and charge the delivery charge + $70.00 per yard

Good info in this thread, always a confusing thing when trying to estimate time and materials on mulch jobs, a guy once told me to multiply your mulch cost by 3 and that should be a great place to start and land a fair amount of work.

The Quality of the job you do should be reflected in your price. Look at the price of the mulch the time it took to get the mulch, how much is your time worth, gas to go get the product, paying your help, state sales tax, income tax, insurance for vehicle, liability insurance for business. Still want to charge 15.00 dollars per yard? Tom Sawer would love that kind of guy

120 plus man hr is way above what we get around Cincinnati. About 70 a yrd is the going rate or 2.5 x cost plus tax
